Interest in MD state championship

Over the past two days, two facts have come to my attention:
1. There is interest in an MD NAQT state championship.
2. Our finances are perilous, to say the least.
Therefore, I'd like to investigate the possibility of hosting a late-season MD state championship. Staffing would probably be an issue, however, so this is dependent on either some combination of UMD people and resident quizbowl alumni volunteering(or people whose teams have already qualified offering to staff, which kinds of undercuts the purpose of a state championship) or a co-hosting arrangement. Also, we'd have to see what dates we can get rooms.

I'd be willing to play/staff. It's always perplexed me how there wasn't one before.
EDIT: Play if our team decides to play, staff if not.

Quince Orchard would attend, and could probably come up with at least 1 or 2 staffers. We were going to host an NAQT tournament in April, but I couldn't take on the responsibility 3 weeks before my wedding (which in itself is pretty time consuming.) I hope you guys can pull this off though, and we'll assist however we can!

My understanding is that DC is part of the Maryland state for this purpose (although I may be mistaken, but I tried to get into the VA states last year and was told we were part of Maryland).

I personally would be happy to help out with the tournament, and my kids would certainly want to compete.

Douglas, I hope you guys decide to do this. Question is...how soon could it be?

I was thinking in late April or beginning of May-that gives us the most time to get things set up. I'll need to talk to Mrs.Danis about what works, though.

Note that after April 24 there is no longer a reserved berth to HSNCT; depending on other conflicts, though, that may be unavoidable.

Yeah, I remember a DC + MD championship from when I was in seventh or eighth grade. I think it was at GDS.
Jeff, is that policy going to continue for this event?

Probably, but we'll think about this after SCT is over.

Okay, it's great to see interest in this, but we'd need to know if we can get any outside volunteers soon-ish.

I'll see if I can interest our team in coming, but if not, I can probably read for this.

Yes, we'll continue to combine DC and MD unless and until there's enough interest to warrant a separate DC event.

Also, please send us a bid with the details of this event and we'll pencil you in for IS #95.

We'll send in a bid as soon as I talk Mrs. Danis into getting room reservations and can get enough volunteers to make this official.

We have rooms reseved for the 8th of May, which was pretty much the only doable date. Jeff, how do we send in a bid?

Read this page, then email [email protected] with your contact information and suggested tournament date.

You should have our bid now. Lemme know if there's anything problematic about it.
