PAQT @ Richard Montgomery HS (3/6/10): CANCELLED

Post by Angry Babies in Love »

Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD is very pleased to announce PAQT (Pre-Apocalyptic Quizbowl Tournament). It is scheduled for March 6, 2010 and will use questions from the New Trier Varsity tournament. The questions are pyramidal and the packets have 20 tossups and 20 bonuses. Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, with the first round begining around 9:00 AM.
Fee structure:
$65 per team
-$5 for each additional team
-$5 for a working buzzer set
-$10 for traveling 200+ miles (one-way)
We welcome volunteer readers and scorers. The tentative team cap is 24, but that could change on reader and room availibility.
To register, send an email to [email protected] that includes the number of teams and buzzers you plan to bring, whether you qualify for the distance discount, and if you would be willing to volunteer readers.
Hope to see you all on March 6!

REGISTERED (7):
Quince Orchard (1)
TJHSST (1)
St. John's (1)
Howard (1)
Longfellow MS (1)
St. Anselm's (1)
Whitman (1)

INTERESTED:
Georgetown Day
Walter Johnson
Culver
Centennial

We regret to announce that PAQT has been cancelled.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Well, this is a surprise. A New Trier mirror in metro-DC?

Consider GDS's interest expressed, but I'll wait to register us until I have a better idea of whether we should be finishing our tournament instead of playing a tournament this weekend.

I definitely think you guys at RM should make a priority of attracting circuit-irregular Montgomery County and PG County schools with existent teams to this tournament. Perhaps you could reserve some spots for them, or send them some pyramidal questions to practice on in the run-up to the tournament?

Yeah I really like the idea of sending out practice pyramidal questions. We'll definitely have a more robust effort than usual at attracting some of those other teams this time than in years past.

But please don't send them the questions from the 2008 NTV set. Most of that is nothing like what this set is like.

Good to know. We'll probably just send something good off of the packet archive (possibly an HSAPQ packet or two.)

I like the idea of sending teams pyramidal questions to practice on. I also like the idea of playing a housewrite that hasn't already been mirrored. Consider Whitman interested.
EDIT: Mirrored in the DC area, I mean.

Expressing interest. Is there any chance the lit singles is going to be mirrored here as well?

I don't know how much overlap there is (well there is at least one team) but there is a taping for the Wash DC "It's Academic" 2nd round matches on this date. I know you probably won't be changing the date, but I thought I would let you know if you didn't realize. (As well as letting you feel the sorrow of knowing that teams won't have Wilson HS to kick around that week  )

Will the funds for the lit tourney mirror go to the Send Dan Donohue to NSC fund? If so, I support this and would like to staff such a mirror.
EDIT:Assuming it happens.

This is exciting. Their captain, TJ Fisher, went to St. Anselm's for middle school and then founded the team there, but I don't think they've showed up to any circuit events in the three years he's been there.

In other news, I believe our coach registered us for this today. If that didn't happen, let me know, and I'll send an email myself.

As of right now, there are 6 registered teams for PAQT. We need at least 15 teams registered by Wednesday to show the school that we are not losing money on the tournament. That doesn't mean we're capping at 15 or closing registration on Wednesday, it just means that if we do not have 15 teams we'll have to cancel. For those teams on the fence about coming, I'd like to mention that there will be a weapons/rap tournament at lunch, which will be amazing for about $5 per player/team (teams if we have enough people registering). The supplemental tournament makes PAQT truly a once in a life time opportunity you do not want to miss!
