Triton Spring - MUT Mirror @ UCSD, 3/6/10

Post by Auroni »

Hey y'all,

UCSD Quizbowl will be hosting a mirror of the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament (MUT) on March 13th. We'd like to invite your school to come down.

Difficultly: The difficulty level should be around ACF Fall level, possibly a little bit harder, making this one of the most accessible tournaments of the year.

Eligibility: Graduate students CANNOT play under any circumstances, but if you want to come help us read we'll be offering a cool -$25 discount for readers. All undergrads and high school players should be fine.

Packets: Packet-submission is completely optional. Please see http://bit.ly/8SIrrn if you would like guidelines for contributing a packet for an additional discount.

Location: Somewhere on the UCSD campus; UCSD's reservations people like to keep the exact location secret for awhile for some reason. We'll post an announcement sometime the week before.

Fees: $100 per team ($50 for high school teams)
Buzzers: -$5/working set
Moderator: -$25/experienced, competent moderator.
Travel: -$15 for first team if 200-400 miles. If over 400 miles or bringing many teams, contact us to negotiate.

To Register: Email us at ucsdqb @ gmail . com to register with the number of teams that you are interested in bringing.

High Schools: We anticipate that this event, on a collegiate novice set, would be challenging but fun for several of the high schools in Southern California. We invite teams from the same high school to play together for half off the registration cost ($50 rather than $100). I'll also repost this announcement thread in the high school section, as we really want to draw several teams from there for this field.

Please let me know if we can expect your team to come and let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you in sunny San Diego in March!

As a heads up, the Claremont Colleges' mirror of Prison Bowl is on the same date.

Fair enough, then we'll move to the 13th. Can the mods change the thread topics to reflect this new date?

Just edit your initial post's subject. BTW, UCLA is probably going to have 1 team, maybe 2. If we attend, expect 2 buzzers.

RB is tentative for 1 team and 1 buzzer set.

If two Torrey Pines players play with two Rancho Bernardo players, they pay the collegiate cost of $100. If four Torrey Pines players play together, they pay $50.

Latest field update posted above. 12 days until this happens; we would really like to see all active SoCal high school teams sign up for this tournament! Base fee is only $50!

Hey, we are going to delay this mirror even further (sorry teams!) Our university won't let us book rooms for this weekend and it is not feasible to squat in on a building on Saturday. Plus, for many schools, including ours, it is the weekend before finals. So this will likely take place in April on a free weekend; we'll get the weekend fixed rather soon.

Not sure if UCLA will be able to make it because of ICT. I'll see if there's interest.

I'm not sure about other schools, but this means NAQT States and MUT bookend our spring break. Not sure how much interest we'll get, or if I myself can make it.

If there's a date that works better for y'all, let us know because I think we're fairly flexible in when we can host (so long as it's not a finals weekend, apparently) and we'd like to try to attract the maximum number of teams.

April 17th is ACF Nationals (are you going this year?), so maybe April 24th? We ruled it out for States because that date would not guarantee a spot held at HSNCT for the winner, but other than that, it should be fine for us.
