The NAQT HSNCT list is currently 13 teams strong, possibly hitting 14:

and New Berlin is almost certain to make it as the next team off the waitlist. New Berlin would be the only IL team qualified for Small School competition.

The HSNCT structure is 10 prelim games of what could roughly be called power matching. Teams that go 6-4 or better on Saturday qualify for double elimination playoffs on Sunday (although I believe 6-4 teams begin Sunday with 1 loss). IIRC, New Berlin would qualify for Small School playoffs with a 4-6 record or better.

The prediction game for HSNCT:
1. Guess each team's prelim record on Saturday: 3 points for guessing a team's record exactly correct; 1 point for correctly guessing if a team makes the playoffs or not.
2. Guess (EDIT) the number of Sunday wins for each playoff team: 5 points for guessing each team's number exactly correct.
Extra credit: HSNCT names Top 25 individuals, so guess which IL players will make the Top 25. 3 points for a correct guess; -1 point for an incorrect guess; 5 point bonus for guessing the list 100% correctly.


The PACE NSC list is 7 teams strong:

The NSC structure splits the 64 teams into 8 pools of 8 (7 games), then rebrackets into 4 tiers of 16, each of which is divided into 2 pools of 8 (another 7 games). Teams outside the top 4 of each of the top two playoff pools then play one final game against the team of equal finish in the other pool in their tier (15 games total); teams in the top 4 of each top playoff pool play 4 games crossover against the other pool, (18 games total), followed by an advantaged final.**

The prediction game for NSC:
1. Guess each team's record and rank in the first 8-team pool: 3 points for guessing a team's record exactly correct. If you did not guess the record correct, you can earn 2 points for guessing their rank exactly correct. If you did not guess either correct, you can earn 1 point for guessing their tier correctly. Tiebreaker games do not count for record. Example guess: "Dan Donohue will go 7-0, placing 1st." If he goes 7-0, 3 points. If he doesn't go 7-0 but gets 1st anyway, 2 points. If he gets 2nd, 1 point.
2. Guess each team's record and rank in the second 8-team pool - only applies if you correctly guessed a team's playoff tier! 6 points for guessing a team's record exactly correct. If you did not guess the record correct, you can earn 3 points for guessing their rank exactly correct.
3. Guess each team's final position, 1st through 64th. 10 points for spot on; 5 points for one away, either direction.
Extra credit: PACE names an 8 person All-Star team. 15 points for correctly naming an Illinois player who makes the team; -5 points for an incorrect guess. (Note: Yogesh Raut is the only Illinoisian ever named to the PACE All-Star team.)

I'll name an HSNCT winner, a PACE winner, and an overall winner. Winners get some prize, likely of little value and only redeemable if you staff/play one of NIU's tournaments. :)

**It intrigues me to no end that HSNCT is easier to describe in a paragraph than NSC, but when you dive into the nitty gritty of it HSNCT is a minefield of details and NSC is elegant pool play. Maybe I just wrote my NSC paragraph horribly.

The places for PACE are easy to calculate, but you have a decision to make at the end, so I can't do them for you.

1. What tier do they make after the first 7 rounds? If tier 1, then 1-16th. Tier 2, 17th to 32nd. Tier 3, 33rd to 48th. Tier 4, 49th-64th.

Unless a team makes the top 8 (So, pretty much, 6-1 or 7-0 followed by 6-1 or 7-0), these rules apply:

2. Once they've made their tier, what place do they get in their playoff pool? If 1st, they'll be top 2 in their tier. If 2nd in their pool, they'll be 3rd or 4th in their tier. And so on.

3. Each team then plays a game for that final positioning; the two teams that are 2nd in their playoff pools will playoff for 3rd/4th in their tier. If it's tier 2, the winner gets 19th and the loser gets 20th. If it's tier 3, the winner gets 35th and the loser gets 36th. And so on.
