You mean SoCal state championships.
It may not look like it, but we do play quizbowl up in NorCal.

But I shall forgive you. Some things are beautiful because they cannot be obtained.

Yeah, this is right, unless the NorCal state champs was canceled or something. Mods, please change the title to reflect it.

Nice to finally have someone from NorCal HS on the boards.

Just a heads up (even though Caltech kids help out with SO too), Science Olympiad's state competition is on the 18th as well. This may cause conflicts for some players involved in both events. I don't know your schedules, but....yeah. Just something to consider if you can find another suitable time still.

Due to a number of cancellations and unforeseen Caltech obligations, the date is changing for the Socal HS State Champs tournament.

Coaches! Please email me/respond with your vote of which date to hold it if you plan on attending:
April 11th
April 25th
possibly May 2nd, but this is getting very close to other tournaments and HSNCT.

Sorry for all the confusion,

Our coach just doesn't want to go up to LA. She said one more trip, and we picked SCIENCE!
Yeah I know it's lame, but oh well.

Kai told me everybody from LJ is on college tours or something of that nature. And can we get a prospective schedule for Saturday? Sorry, but our coach isn't going, and he sort of left us all to our own devices...

That's some really impressive P/B conversion. Nice job. Numbers like this make me excited to see the national tournaments in May to see how these sort of teams compare to the East Coast behemoths we have over here.

Can someone explain why Poly B apparently left halfway through the tournament and North Hollywood B apparently got subsumed into the A team halfway through? I don't have the time to do TWAIN-like reconstruction on these stats right now, but I'd appreciate some description of the format so I can figure out why teams had wildly varying numbers of games.

I think Poly B just had to leave, so during the rebracketing they just put a sign of some sort to symbolize where PolyB would have stood had they not left.

Concerning NoHo, apparently one of the A team members and one of the B team members had to leave, so instead of forcing A to play with 3 people and B to play with just one, someone approved of the merger.

Also, for some strange reason [maybe he forgot he wasn't going by that alias], Travis of NoHo A decided to call himself "The Trout" again [as he had for almost every other tournament this year] for his last two games.

^^ That is exactly correct Tracy.

People leaving/switching names actually throws a big kink in the system, contrary to popular belief. So that's what we get.
