Hey, I think you should reconsider this. Your #2 and #3 stats are exactly the same thing since you're not using a clock, and #4 is just a less accurate version of #2. Head-to-head tiebreakers don't make any sense since you're double-counting a game. NAQT provides 15 packets in an IS set, so you should be able to play off any ties; if time concerns or a plan to use all 15 rounds on the schedule make that impossible, then the most fair tiebreaker stat within a round-robin is simply PPG. When comparing teams from different brackets, it's bonus conversion.

In addition, using margin of victory to resolve a tie between two teams with identical PPG seems backwards to me, since it would reward the team that scored the same number of points against a weaker set of teams.

Oh, thanks very much. We pretty much just copied last year's announcement and hadn't considered that. :D I'll change that ASAP!

Hey, we're improving all the time.

don't hate alex, that announcement was written at like 5am, so cut me some slack alright? anyway, if you're in the socal area, I do encourage you to attend, last year's tournament was, according to several accounts pretty well run (it ran ahead of schedule too..which i'd imagine is a rarity in the quizbowl world). and if you're from outside the area consider attending not just for the questions and some of socal's best teams, but for the glorious 50-60 degree "winters" we have in sunny california

and SuperSmash in the bye rooms.

Along with the mall's food court (which has a McDonald's, Great Khans, Johnny Rockets, Cheesecake Factory, among others),
El Pollo Loco, Carl's Junior, Jody Maroni's Sausage Kingdom, Tapioca Express,
99 cent store, etc.

all within walking distance

Out of curiosity,
is the title of this tournament a reference to a Thomas Pynchon limerick from Gravity's Rainbow?

I'm pretty sure it's from Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia. The play opens with a sustained joke about carnal embrace as either sexual intercourse or hugging a side of beef.

I was hoping it was a Jimmy Carter reference, but Siva probably is right.

Yeah, it's in reference to Tom Stoppard's play. Since we're from Arcadia...it's somehow immersed itself into our curriculum.

I'm pretty sure La Jolla will be attending with two teams, but I'll have to confirm. Hope more teams show up this time than last year, though since we won our only undefeated tournament here, I'm not complaining D:

After 6 rounds, Edison is in the lead with a 5-1 record, followed closely by La Jolla's A and B teams.

*edit* FULL STATS UP.
La Jolla B beat Polytechnic A in a tiebreaker for third place, thus double qualifying La Jolla for HSNCT and NSC

err...technically, it DID decide third place also...but I meant...

La Jolla B beat Polytechnic A in a tiebreaker for second place.

Thanks Fred.

Stats WITH the tiebreak

http://results.scobo.net/SQBS.aspx?org= ... =standings

note that La Jolla A was technically first place, but when I entered in the tiebreak, La Jolla B had the better record.
so the final standings are actually

1) La Jolla A
2) La Jolla B
3) Polytechnic A
