This is a very preliminary announcement for a UCSD mirror of the Harvard Fall Tournament (HFT), which will take place on the 15th of November.

I'm Auroni Gupta and I'll be the TD for this event and since we're a new club with few people we will need a lot of help staffing. Contact me at auronigupta AT gmail DOT com to staff.

This tournament is house-written by members of the Harvard Quizbowl Club and will be slightly longer than the average NAQT format tossup and significantly longer than San Diego County, Academic Decathlon, and North County Academic League formats, and clues will be arranged from hard to easy in a pyramidal fashion.

Fee Structure

The home incarnation of this tournament has a great fee structure that I'll borrow:

EDIT: 10/25/08, with a few modifications:

$70 base fee
-$10(n-1) where n is the number of teams you plan to bring
-$10 buzzer discount
-$10 for bringing moderators
-$10 travel discount for more than 200 miles

Minimum fee: $30

This section will be updated once I have an idea about how the room reservation system works at UCSD and how long I can hold them..

Side Tournament

Andy Watkins, TD of the Harvard site, has written a side tournament on 20th century stuff for hosting purposes. I'm going to edit this once I learn more about how that plays out.

send me an email with a subject line of "HFT Registration : " followed by your school name and an exact number of teams you are planning to bring. Also indicate what discounts you might claim.

This is my first time doing this, and I hope it goes well. Stay tuned here for bracketing news (once I figure out how to bracket, that is) and for field updates from interested teams. Also note that this date is mutable if other stuff also happens here around this time.
