That's correct, Sun. From what I've heard (I was not there, but I can infer from what I saw of Freddy in practice, in tournaments, and whenever I've faced him in regular season play), Freddy got something like half of the questions, which is "epic", in my book at least.

No talk about camp at Mt. St. Mary's? I figured that people on the message board were going; it starts today... a couple kids from CR are there.

They might not have internet access... I didn't notice anyone with a computer there last year... We were pretty lucky to have wireless in the dorm at Milligan.

Edit: I've just remembered two people reading questions from computers, but I seem to remember one failing in an attempt to access YouTube after insisting that I see The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. However, I'm not sure if that was due to a lack of internet or to YouTube being blocked.

I am on wireless at Mt St Mary's now as I do night duty.

Our final ACE camp for 2008 is in full swing now having started on sunday afternoon. It's a small camp with 40 players and just 3 coaches and 5 staff members (Eric Huff of Dorman HS, Elliott Rountree of Chattahoochee HS, Barbara Heckert of Ripley HS, Ted Gioia of Harvard, and JR Barry.) We should have some competition results up on our ACE web site tomorrow. http://www.acequizbowlcamp.com

Why is the camp that's nearest to VA/DC/MD/PA/DE the one with the smallest number of attendees? Heck even NY/NJ kids could drive down.

Last year there were 46 people, counting at least 3 NY kids, 1 from MN, and 2 from IL. We sent 4 kids last year and 1 this year...TJ sent no one last year. I think it comes down to what Dr. Chuck said and a preference in the area to teach themselves and their teammates rather than pay for classes, especially with the rise in open practices over the summer and increased HS interest in open tournaments around here (thus ACE isn't our only shot at QB over the summer as it might be in other areas).

I totally forgot Wayzata was in MN. Sorry. I remembered Michael because we checked in right after him. Some of my other numbers are also off, and I neglected the states of TN and OH.

Anyway, my original point was: not that many of the campers at MSM are actually from the Mid-Atlantic. There were 4 of us, 2 from GDS, Daichi and Dan (and possibly other people from WJ and Gonzaga that I didn't meet), and 2 that I can remember from RM. I don't remember meeting anyone from Whitman, though they might have been there. So, out of 46, I'm coming with 10 from the bigger Mid-Atlantic teams. More apologies if I've forgotten other people; my memory sucks and I hung out with a teammate and some guys from WV all week.

I roomed with Daichi and Pratik Gandhi, who was from Centennial and Maryland. I may (debatably) count as a regional person as well, though Charter is really on the periphery of the DC region.

Man, my memory really sucks. I played with you one night and forgot Charter. OK. That takes us to 12 from this region out of 46. That's still pretty low.

Back from ACE camp- it was tons of fun. As for rankings, it's safe to say almost every night teams led by by either Dan Puma or Ike Jose [sp?] won. Both of those players were always the frontrunners.
Here's what I can remember from subject area finals-

Literature-
1. Ike Jose [Stowe Monroe]
2. Dan Puma [Gonzaga]
3. Claire L. [Fremd?]

Science-
1. Peter Megson [Collegiate]
2. Can't remember the guy's name. Can see him very clearly, but no name.
3. Same here.

Social Studies
1. Jackson Kulas [Copley, I think]
2. Again, no name. Remember he was from Walter Johnson.
3. Alex C. [Gonzaga]

Ike Jose had the highest initial camp test with 55.

Dan Puma had 53?

As for individual tests, I remember one person got 98 percent overall- Andy from Walton.

I mean, there's an outside chance, considering that he traveled to Pittsburgh for a tournament I staffed when I was on spring break last year. If he improves, I could reasonably imagine he would go to your area for a tournament; he certainly should.

Hm, I should remember to invite him to HFT. As for YOU guys...

Hi, this is Ike from Stow. Since I've seen my name popping up I guess I should start visiting here a bit more often. I've posted here before on a different name (or names) been a few months, and figured I'd establish myself.

Yeah, I would love to do more of this. The Ohio area for quizbowl has left me disillusioned due to the dissolution of Garfield Heights, and the rotten stench of OAC. As for that invitation, I'd gladly accept it, notwithstanding transportation and its costs. In fact, any tournament in the DC/Maryland/Va ish area, with Tu/B QB I'd gladly come provided my weekends are open.
That's probably why I recognized his name... I didn't remember having heard of his school, though.
Yes, in Div 2, I wasn't quite prepared to get massacred, Although chances are that's probably not why you recognized my name, as I had my name changed since I went to WoQ. As for my school, it was LOT Academy...I had to change my school name so my school wouldn't accuse me of misrepresenting them...especially since there was no advisor.

Just because my curiosity has now thoroughly eaten away at me, does anyone who went to MSM know how Ben Kenzer did? He was the only Maggie Walker kid there... I'd ask him myself, but we're not currently speaking to each other. I was a bit surprised he wasn't in the Top 3 of the history tournament, as that's what he's best at besides art and he was supposedly working hard to get better at it, but that may have been due to the amount of geography in the history final...

He basically quit the team for May and June with the intention of mastering history over the summer and coming back next season. I had my doubts, to say the least, but I hoped he'd at least be competitive. He's got confidence issues to get over if he's ever going to be any good. Thanks for the info.

Also, he and I roomed together. We both studied for Ted's and Mr. Huff's classes (we coincidentally had the same ones) and he seemed very dedicated. I dont know if he mastered history, but if the school year starts and he has, I wouldn't be surprised.
