I'm hoping that this thread would be useful both for hosts who are looking for an open date and for participants who are looking for tournaments to go to. I'll periodically edit to update the information, but please post whatever information I may miss, and I'll add it in. I'll probably add college tournaments to the list once I have the dates, mostly for my own benefit.

Wilmington Charter hosts the ninth annual Delaware Fall Open on Dec. 13th, 2008.
The University of Delaware (in coordination with Bill Tressler of Charter) will also host the Blue Hen Invitational XI sometime in March 2009.

In September sometime will be the Maryland Fall Classic tournament, the It's Academic style one.

I will be forced into a date switch this year due to (of all things!) a fireman's convention that has already booked the building. I thought in September I would ask last year's attendees for input on what would work. I'm actually OK with the tournament being a little smaller this year, like 30 teams instead of 48, because we are in the middle of a large building renovation.

Blue Hen XI is probably in March, avoiding WoQ, Science Olympiad, and Spring Breaks as much as possible.

There was also some talk by the Scholastic Bowl advisory committee about trying to set uniform dates for VHSL District and Region competition, but it was unclear to me if this was going to happen for '08-'09 or if the goal was for '09-'10.

If all goes according to plan (basically, if the GDS fall show isn't that weekend,) the GDS mirror of NNT will take place on November 8th. If not, we will try to run it on November 22. I know that conflicts with Auburn HS's tournament, but that's a 4 hour drive from DC and there was basically no field overlap with the DC area last year. Sunday, November 2, is a less likely possibility. More information will be available in August or September when the GDS theater program releases the dates of the fall show.

There is a potential, although many, many, many things would need to be done for this to be possible, that Rappahannock County will host a house-written tournament on some future date. Thanks George. We are 60 miles west of DC in the middle-of-nowhere, for those potentially interested.

AJ, a word of caution. HS tournaments that get run on SAT dates tend to not go over very well.

Anyone ever tried a post-SAT quiz bowl "party"? Like run a mini-tournament at 5pm for SAT "detox" purposes? Or are brains way too fried for that?

Its usually ends between 12 and 1 PM.

As far as good quizbowl doing this, I can't say.

But, OAC Regionals used to start at 1 PM, after the SAT finished.

Can Rappahannock County temporarily "claim" April 4 for it's inaugural tournament "The RAPPoff?" We need administrative approval still, hence its temporary status.

It is looking like we are going to have to change the date since I am having problems getting rooms on that date.
