6th Annual Gonzaga Academic Tournament(GAT) (2/7/09)

I just wanted to make this announcement as kind of a save-the-date. Questions will be house-written, with myself, Theodore Jasper Gioia, and Eric Mukherjee, and Andy Watkins serving as editors-in-chief. Basically, this should be the best tournament ever.

I volunteer to edit science, mostly because I can very, very confidently say that I can edit high school level science, and also because otherwise I'd have a bit of a lull in my writing and editing duties.

Granted, you'd probably want to keep it a little bit more "house" than that.

Ted talked to me about doing the science for you all earlier; if Andy wants it, I'm totally fine with that (I can help him out and/or give him the skeleton I'm working on), just let me know.

Ted emailed me and said it'd be awesome if we both worked on it, and collaborating would be fun.

Sweet. I'm free whenever you want to talk about what we ought to do, et cetera.

So, I'm bumping this to get some interest going. It really should be a good tournament, and we already have a few teams signed up, so register now.

Would love to give you official word... but there's something else that may conflict so we'll have to wait a bit.

Definitely expressing interest though. If so, we'd probably bring one team.

Saint Anselm's is going to be there with definitely one, but probably two teams. If she hasn't already, our coach will email you soon.

Sounds like we'll have two teams, but i'm only about 80% sure of that. Go ahead and write us down for both and i'll let you know as soon as i can when it's really official.

We have some interest in this as well. What is the pricing structure and question distribution for the event?

Hello, Everyone. This is Fr. Ken Meehan, coach of the Gonzaga Academic Team. With great regret I have canceled our "6th Annual Tournament" because the people who were supposed to be writing the questions did not produce them by the deadlines I had set. I appreciate the interest you may have had in registering, and we hope to see you at some other tournaments during the rest of the year. I have offered our date of February 7th to Coach Gerry Greenbaum of Eleanor Roosevelt HS since he was frustrated in attempts to arrange ER's tournament in the fall, so you may be hearing from him.

Will this tournament be rescheduled, or is it canceled completely?

Were any of the questions written? If so, what will be done with the question that have already been written?

To answer several queries from January 27th: I would be willing to re-schedule the tournament for April or May, but the appeal of our past tournaments has been the quality of our house-written questions (despite the extra work it means for me as editor), and I think my team captain has come to realize his incapability to spearhead the operation. As it turned out, no questions had been written by the New Year's deadline I had set, while I was constantly being assured otherwise. At this point I'm not eager to spend a lot to purchase questions from notable sources, or to mirror someone else's tournament, fearing diminished enthusiasm and feeling too disappointed that we could not fulfill our promises made from the beginning. We had a great run here for five years, and I thank everyone who came to our tournaments for your support and impressive comments about our school.
