MANIAC (Moravian Academy)(Cancelled)

Post by slimg »

Moravian Academy will be hosting the Moravian Academy Northeastern Interscholastic Academic Competition on October 25, 2008. We will most likely be using an NAQT A-level packet. Time and price are still being decided. We hope you will be interested.

A decent drive, but CR might take a look at this if we can work our way around the commute.

I forgot to mention, we're located in Bethlehem, PA. For those who aren't familiar with Bethlehem, it is 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 8 miles from the New Jersey border.

We will be most likely be using IS-78A, if anyone was wondering which packet we will have.

Freedom High School, right down the street, I think would really like to attend. But, this is still a long way off, and funding may be a problem in a district 12 million dollars in debt.

I was told 78A by the people at NAQT, but you do point out a discrepancy. I will look into that.

Princeton's using IS-77, an odd number, so I think that IS-78 will be an A-level packet

The name of the tournament will probably be the Moravian Academy Northeastern Interscholastic Academic Competition (MANIAC).

(Don't think that because the tournament has "Northeastern" in the name, only northeastern schools can come. We just needed an N for the acronym)

Does anyone know how to change the name of the thread now that we have an official name? I tried contacting the moderator but that was unsuccessful.

Just edit your initial post. I took care of it for you, but since your tournament name is too long to put in in its full version you got what's up there.

I've just been notified that the tournament will not take place on the orginal date. It will still be in the fall, hopefully close to the orginal date. Actual date TBA.

If October 25 is available, we will look into this for Penn's tournament (though there seem to be tournaments in NY and VA on the same days) for now. We're looking into other dates too, but we'll claim this for now.

I don't know how many teams you were looking to attract from the DC/MD/VA area, but the Cav Classic is 10/25.

You're too quick for me, Sarah. I just noticed that and edited my above post as you were posting. If it were my choice, I'd like it available to those DC/MD/VA teams, etc. but y'all have a tournament every weekend in the fall as far as I can tell.

I know if we have the funds to afford an overnighter other than Cave Spring, we'd be interested. I don't know about other area teams, though... I hope there's a date that works for both your area and ours.

Sorry to jack this thread again, but, unless I'm missing something, it's looking like 11/22/08 would be the best date for our tournament to allow MD/DC/VA teams to attend (since the Auburn tournament was moved), so expect a forthcoming announcement.

It's "Caesar Rodney" by the way.

And no, we're not interested anymore, we'll be going to the tourney that Charter is hosting later on in the year using this same packet, so, sorry.

Well, only if the field is 21 teams. Do I need to bring more?

I may not want to take more than 2 to nationals. The return to the weekend after Memorial Day has again put HSNCT in conflict with our graduation. The initial word is the some seniors' parents will require them to stay home and do the non-quizbowl thing.

Unfortunately, due to lack of interest, the Moravian Academy Quizbowl Team has had to cancel its MANIAC tournament. We appreciate the support of those teams who were interested in the tournament and we hope to be able to try again in the future.
