Classes are 70 minutes each day EXCEPT the last day when they are 45 minutes each. Every camper takes THREE courses.
These are the ACE classes for SEMO and MIlligan College in TN.
I am wondering
a) Is there advanced Lit?
b) when will the Maryland classes come out?
c) Will science be just biology again?

Re: ACE classes
That is another question. I don't know any of these answers. I am hoping that Mr. Huff, Mr. Roundtree, or Mr. Barry or others from ACE can answer them.

Re: ACE classes
1. Courses are 3, 70-minute classes and a 4th 45-minute class.
2. Players will take 3 courses at camp.
3. Basic Lit entails taking TWO back-to-back classes with one being lecture and the second one being buzzer drills on the topic. Same for Basic Sci and US History.
4. We will have other lit courses and as soon as we have them nailed down, they will appear on our website at http://www.acequizbowlcamp.com

1. Lab calss is the drill classes I described in the earlier post. Lab classes are attached to Basic Lit, US Hist, and Basic Science.
2. We have never had "just biology" at our camps. But Basic Science will be primarily biology.

Re: ACE classes
Which classes are intended to be 70 minutes and which 45? and if basic lit is a two "period" class. Will there be an equivalent for an advanced lit class? Or would it be like a 70 minute British lit, and a 70 minute American lit class?
Also are the plans for the scheduling of the periods. I imagine that is going to be a nightmare.

Re: ACE classes
Hey, kcobain911: where did you get aLL THAT wrong info concerning ACE courses?
Re: ACE classes
BGSO: each COURSE has 4 CLASS SESSIONS that meet over the entire camp perod. Day 2-3-4 classes are 70-minutes long and Day 5 classes are 45-minutes long. Each camper chooses 3 courses to take at camp. This system replaces the majors/minors system we have used for many years.
We will still have a SS, a Lit, and a Sci camp tournament on the last afternoon.
We did this last year at our MD camp and it worked well, we thought. THIS year we'll simply sign campers up for courses as they check-in. Maybe I am overlooking something, but it seems not nightmarish to me.

From the ACE website. but looking back now, the information from the site looks more organized. Sorry for any confusion.jrbarry wrote:Hey, kcobain911: where did you get aLL THAT wrong info concerning ACE courses?

Re: ACE classes
Doing that gives you only one night to get a schedule worked out, which I guess is fine if you have a flexible/large enough staff, but it might be easier to develop a schedule that benefits the greatest number of people by finding out who wants to take what classes in advance. Just a thought, and I admit I have no experience in scheduling.jrbarry wrote: THIS year we'll simply sign campers up for courses as they check-in. Re: ACE classes
We ran this schedule last summer at our MSM camp. Repeated attempts to get the 47 campers to choose courses by email in advance proved a major failure. 25% of our campers simply did not reply to repeated emails to make their choices.
So, when campers check-in this year, they will see our course schedule and sign-up for whichever courses they want given the restrictions necessitated by us having only three class periods. Seems simple to me. When check-in is over, I'll have a number of students for each class at each period and I can assign rooms for each class at that time.
Yes, I understand that some campers may not get exactly what they want in all three classes. MOst will get all three of their choices, others may have to choose an alternate choice to round out their three classes. But that alternate will be the camper's choice as they check-in.

Re: ACE classes
Looking forward to this. Will a description of the courses be posted eventually, or are they pretty much self-explanatory?

Re: ACE classes
Will the fine arts class cover new meterial from what was covered in fine-arts II last year?
Or would it be similar and, therefore, more benificial to take a new class like philosophy or shakespeare?

Last year Eric Huff taught Fine Arts. This year it will be Terrill Wilkins.
Even with that, I would take something different if I were you.

Question for Mr. Barry or anyone else working at ACE -
How will the quizzes work? Will all classes have them? Will the final tournament handicap rules still apply?

I took Lit II Nobel Prize Winners at SEMO last year... Is there a lit III this year?
Re: ACE classes
All three classes will have quizzes, although they will be shorter than quizzes given in previous years (10 questions this year I think).Xerxes wrote:How will the quizzes work? Will all classes have them?

Re: ACE classes
1. Every class will have daily quizzes and every quiz in every class will be 10 questions. We will compile ALL quiz scores to give each player a handicap to begin the subject matter contest of their choice (Sci-SS-Lit) on the last day.
2. We still have room for people at all three camps. We have waived the late fee, so anyone can register now at the basic price. Thanks, colleges, for being understanding on this!

Cape Girardeau, MO newspaper says the crest at Cape will be Monday and wqill be lower than previously tought. Every time a levee breaks upriver, the flood gets less at Cape.
The SEMO campus is on highest ground in the area and has never flooded. The Illinois side of the River plus some areas south of Cape may have some problems.
