Belles' Bowl (2/9/08) at Saint Mary's School (Raleigh, NC)

Post by ProsperoSMS »

Just announcing the date early--

Saint Mary's Quiz Team will host the third Belles' Bowl on 9 February 2008.

Further details to follow, but the matches will be in a trefoil format (lightning round, themed worksheet, TU/bonus), and we will cap the field at 16 teams.

Thanks,
Hugh Davis

Please put Raleigh Charter down for at least 2 teams, or whatever you want to cap the per school limit at.

Reminder that the Belles' Bowl is just a few weeks away.

Current teams registered:
Raleigh Charter (X2)
Robinson (X2)
Harnett Central (X1)
TW Andrews High School
Cary Academy
Collegiate (X2)
NC Science & Math
Rocky Mount (X2)
Cave Springs

Obviously, I'd love to get even numbers of teams--it saves most headaches.

Thanks,

Hugh Davis
Saint Mary's School

Note: Edited to reflect change in team numbers on 22 January 2008

Field Update, as of 31 January 2008:

Robinson (2 teams, no buzzers)
Raleigh Charter (2 teams, 4 buzzers)
Harnett Central (1 team, 1 buzzer)
TW Andrews High (1 team, no buzzer)
Cary Academy (1 team, no buzzer)
NCSSM (2 teams, 1 buzzer)
Cave Springs (1 team, 1 buzzer)
Rocky Mount (2 teams, no buzzers)
Onslow County (1 team, 1 buzzer)

Assuming these teams hold, I'd love to get one more for an even field.

We might be interested in bringing a third. Also, we're about to buy a traveling buzzer system so if we get it by next week, we'll bring it.

Argh. Drake beat me to it... well, if he can't bring an extra, we can bring one more to even it out.

That Kathryn was go-od. Cave Spring's team was ebullient, and that's fun to watch, even when they're beating you.

Once again, it's great to see so much competition in NC. NCSSM and Robinson have been great teams this year and I've enjoyed playing both of them.

See you at the RTO, and hopefully at NCOAST as well!

It's very cool and very fun that N.C. has three teams that can essentially beat each other in any given match; I've certainly never known so much parity.

I was really impressed with Cave Spring. In our semifinal game Kathryn was very good, and the captain (a blonde girl) just played out of her mind - we were getting clobbered on the buzzers. Congrats on a well-deserved win.

Thanks to all for the turnout yesterday. Things seemed to turn out well, despite a scramble at one point to make up for a problem in-house.

Good job to all teams. Three of the four semi-finalists were those three NC schools mentioned above, and congrats to Cave Spring on a great day (and being the first non-NC/non-Raleigh Charter school to win the Belles).

See you at RTO.

It was a great tournament and the kids had a good time. We always enjoy our forays into North Carolina. I think we were rather surprised that we did as well as we did, considering that the top teams in NC were there. Thanks for the compliments and for having us there.

Heidi, our captain, is the blonde chickie BTW. She's pretty good with her history and mythology... just don't ask her to do basic math. :P
