A training program

Post by kCobain911 »

Hi, I am relatively new here, so nice to meet you. As a member of the Varsity, we would like to create a training program for the JV. I would like to ask your advice on a couple of things :

1. How soon should we start? Its been the 2nd week of meetings. We don't want to scare them away so around what time should we tell them about the program.

2. How can we motivate them to work, if any do sign up? They are JV and there is not much incentive for them to study yet?

Thank you for reading this.

Your post could probably use some background information. For one thing, what do you mean by "tell them about the program?" Is there some kind of steroid treatment involved to play on your school's quiz team? You said it's the second week of meetings, but they don't know about the activity? I don't understand.

sorry about that.

1. By program , I mean a program over the basics for the JV. We want to see how they do in normal practice for the first few weeks and then divide them up based on subjects (ie Lit, Science, History).

2. By scaring away, I mean that pushing the JV too fast might discourage them from coming to quiz bowl.

3. By second week, I meant its the second week of normal play, where everyone and anyone can come in and play once a week. The program would be for the JV or V who go to tournaments and try to get better.

Quiz bowlers on steroids. Didn't find anything on Google though.

Wouldn't the quizbowl equivalent of steroids be something like speed?

Ok, after I got the distasteful image of me jogging up and down bleachers out of my head, I found a couple helpful archived threads:

Recruiting
Practice (somewhat college-oriented)

How are you actually reading one of my posts?

Actually, we frequently use speed before tournaments. We just use every one-line question from Kentucky. The Kentucky speed jokes have gotten quite out of hand.

Thanks Buzzer Zen.
