I'm confused who you are saying puts out the best product. And I don't think those results really mean all that much when you remember that Chip Beall wrote the questions.

What are we, actually debating whether or not Chip Beall is a total farce as quizbowl and an ethical morass that every team should avoid? Is it 1997 again?

I am the cap of North Myrtle Beach and knowing James Island I think that they will win the NAC if not the top 20 at NAQT due to there knowledge honestly I do not know why my team actually went 5-3 or 6-2 at the tourney we really are good, yet we have never competed on a NAQT format as we have never left our county at all to compete. (sc quiz bowl what did you mean by we played NMB)

Let's end this debate, and have an insightful discussion on what teams will be good next year in the state of South Carolina. Dorman will reload with their B team, as I was surprised that they lost to a young Thomas Jefferson, who didn't have many of their top players, but their playoffs were brutal at VCU, having to play Gonzaga, Thomas Jefferson, , Southside will be very good, Aiken will grow up, and James Island will have the two seniors and the junior, but not much else.

South Carolina will remain one of the most competitive states in the country, with good, competent teams having a chance at all of the big regional tournaments (Walton, Brookwood, Vanderbilt), and having a chance to win at all four nationals.

First off, welcome to the board! I used to live in South Carolina for many years and am happy to see that NMB does in fact have a team. I would highly encourage you all to try really hard to make it, at least to start, to a couple of tournaments outside your area to make contact with other teams and expand your horizons. I know that can be difficult, especially if there are budgetary problems, but it's well worth the effort--there are many teams out there who would be happy to help in any way possible.

Thanks Byko it makes me feel good that someone gives us praise. Next year will be my last year since i will be a senior and going to college the year after, yet i know my team will be probably playing in about 5-6 tourneys around the southeast next year we hope to make the HSNCT next year but my greatest hope is for the young ones coming up from NMB middle to be prepared as many of them know a lot of stuff. P.S i am talking about these kids are learning algebra in 7th grade

Southside is not going to NAQT Nats... We were invited, but had already elected to go to NAA Nats in Chicago.
And as for the the Greenville County Champion... that's Southside too.

We are fielding three teams tomorrow at Season-Ending: one Varisty team, and two JV teams (including the four sophomores from States).

Excuse me, I don't believe I properly introduced myself.
I'm one of the Southside sophomores who was on the State Championship team. My name is Ben Cole, but I go by BC.

Is NAA a typo for NAC?

Not really, though they're basically one and the same. See http://www.doc-ent.com/qbwiki/index.php ... ssociation.

Our coach sort of decided where we would go for us. Southside has never attended a national tournament before. We qualled for NAQT's HSNCT and for the NAC. But she decided we would go to NAC. By the time we knew what was going on, we were registered for NAC. Given a choice, we probably we would have gone to HSNCT. :-P

Ukonvasara wrote:

Next year, however, we'll probably attend HSNCT. The sophomores (who run the team basically unopposed, except for one junior) are more eager to reach the level of HSNCT champion teams. We're pretty adamant. The junior who's going to be Captain next year thinks we're kind of tyrannical, so we've been christened "The Committee of Public Safety."

Can't wait to see you there. Honestly, it's a measure of how far we come that we can reckon you our rivals. It's an honor.

As Joe said before South Carolina will remain one of the premier league areas of quiz bowl in the country (Dorman,Irmo,Southside,GSSM,James Island, etc.....)

Irmo attended atleast one Dorman tournament and I seem to recall our C team playing them at Robinson's spring tournament (the PACE set)

I should have done this earlier, but Byko's rankings tell me that Irmo played at:
Robinson Fall (some IS...)
Dorman (four quarter)
Robinson Spring (PACE)
Spartanburg (NAQT A set)
SC State Championship (NAQT...)

I think one year Southside planned to attend PACE NSC when we ran it at Furman in 2000. Unfortunately your predecessors couldn't attend.
