RESULTS: Rt. Triangle Open (3/10/07) @ Raleigh Charter (NC)

Post by rchschem »

The fourth Right Triangle Open will be held at Raleigh Charter on March 10. The format is a version of the dreaded Four Corners scheme:

Part I: team directed questions
Part II: team worksheet
Part III: lightning round
Part IV: Pyramid tossups/bonuses

The tournament will be Swiss-paired in real time. We will also be running a live scoreboard of all matches as well as individual leaders.

Cost: $55 for the first team; $45 for additional teams with a $10 buzzer discount (max. 2 per team).

Eric

This morning I got a glimpse of the program being used to keep real time stats for our tournament, and it is really cool. The best part: it compiles individual points per game in real time for every player, which will be displayed throughout the tournament in a separate room. I can't wait, and I won't even get to play in the tournament.

The field is now officially closed at 26 teams.

Please check the tournament website for a new posting of the tournament rules. A few small changes have been made and some parts have been clarified.

Stats are currently being posted as the rounds complete. (Note: now that the rounds are over these are only the final playoff stats. The others will be reposted early in the week).

Final results: James Island (SC) beats Russell (KY) 280-210.

3: Cave Spring (VA)
4: Cary Academy (NC)

After long delays in round one due to software problems (which were eventually fixed), the tournament played out (timewise) as predicted (the rounds took as long I thought they would). The Swiss pairing worked well.

I am interested in hearing the takes of the participants on the questions, play, and staffing. I was not actually able to be at the tournament most of the day due to a family illness, so I will blame any problems on those who were there.

My team enjoyed this tournamet very much. The questions were excellent. The officials were wonderful, and we really liked the swiss pairing via software. I would highly encourage other teams to consider this tournament.

Congrats on James Island on winning the tournament. The kids had a great time and we were very pleased with the tourney itself. The score keeping program you had going looks great. I hope that works out well for you guys and we look forward to returning next year. Thanks for having us.
