JHU HS Fall Tournament (10/24)

Post by hexagonman »

Johns Hopkins University is pleased to announce the Johns Hopkins Fall Tournament on October 24th, 2020.

Eligibility:
All Schools in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and West Virginia are able to participate

Location:
The tournament will take place online
Entry Fees and Discounts:
Base Fee: $65 per team
Staffing: -$10 per competent staffer (limit one per team)

Payment must be made before the day of the tournament either by cash or check only. Please make checks out to "Johns Hopkins University."

Format:
This tournament will follow official NAQT rules (which can be viewed at http://www.naqt.com/rules.html) with slight modifications on timing.

Question Set:
We will be using an NAQT IS set, which is a normal-level set. More information on the set can be found here: https://www.naqt.com/hs/distribution.jsp

Team and Roster Size:
There is a maximum of 6 players on a team; up to four members may play at once. We recommend no more than four members on a team, so that students may play the maximum number of rounds.

Team Limit:
Until one week prior to the registration deadline (October 12), only three teams from a school may register. Subsequent teams (up to an additional two, for five total) from the same school will be placed on the wait list. Following October 12, two additional teams from that school on the wait list will be moved off of the wait list and registered (assuming that there are spots still open).

Registration:
To register, please fill out the following form (https://forms.gle/NEM5uuYQR1EbssiH9) by October 19. The field will initially be capped at 16 initially.

Timeline:
Here are some important dates:
October 12, 2020: Multiple Team Deadline
October 19, 2020: Registration Deadline
October 21, 2020: Roster Deadline
October 24, 2020: Tournament Date

Feel free to contact us at [email protected] for any reason.

Is there restricted eligibility for this event? To clarify: Do you want just novices or are other players allowed to play?

Yes, this event is a qualifier for NAQT's 2021 national championships.

In general, the top 15% of the field at a varsity tournament using NAQT questions qualifies for HSNCT. Full details are here.

If there are enough staffers, would it be possible to expand the field to 24 to accommodate the additional teams?

Will cameras be required for this tournament? If so, is this competition also a qualifier for PACE NSC?

Are there enough staffers to expand the field?

Thanks.

Congratulations to Richard Montgomery A for winning an advantaged final over MB A.

Thanks to all the teams for participating and all the staffers who helped the tournament run smoothly.

We hope to see everyone at at another one of our tournaments!
