LUKA for the South -- Online on 10/17

Post by alan_grant »

Hello!

Plano West Quizbowl's members and alumni are proud to be announcing a new tournament: Late-year Ultimate Knowledge Assessments, a.k.a LUKA!

LUKA will be a regional mirror of MCMT, an HS-regs level set. More details about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?p=364447#p364447.

"Venue"
We will host LUKA online, on Discord, on October 17th. Rounds will start 10 AM Eastern/9 AM Central.

Eligibility
LUKA will be a HS-CLOSED mirror, meaning only teams consisting of players from the same school may compete. Chimera teams will not be allowed. Furthermore, LUKA will be regionally restricted to the American South. Only teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Texas may participate.

Register
Teams can register here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing. There is a $70 registration fee, and payment details will be revealed closer to the date. There is a soft field cap of 16 teams, and multiple teams from the same school are welcome to register.

Staff
If you're interested in staffing, please leave your contact information in the second page of the spreadsheet, and I will email or Discord DM you ASAP!

Rules
Twenty tossup-bonus cycles will be played in each match. We will be using ACF rules (https://acf-quizbowl.com/gameplay-rules/). Players will have 5 seconds after a tossup to buzz, 5 seconds after a buzz to answer, and 7 seconds after a bonus is read to direct an answer.

Misconduct and Cheating
All players, spectators, and coaches must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct, linked here: http://www.pace-nsc.org/nsc-code-of-conduct/. Players, spectators, and coaches should report misconduct either directly to staff or via the misconduct form found at the bottom of the PACE Code of Conduct. Every instance of misconduct will be dealt with seriously by tournament staff. Similarly, the staff will investigate every allegation of cheating and reserves the right to report confirmed cheaters to local and national Quizbowl organizations.

UPDATE (9/4): At the request of the editors, the list of states that this tournament is open to has been slightly altered. Teams outside of the region that have registered prior to this update are still welcome to compete.

Should we expect a field expansion for this tournament, or is that unlikely to happen?

TOURNAMENT UPDATES

Field
The field has been expanded to 24 teams. We would love it if a couple more readers sign up. We will be paying $25 to each moderator.

Video Policy
LUKA will require all players to have their video on when they are playing a round. All PACE NSC qualifying tournaments must maintain this policy.

Payment Information
Payment information, including due dates and the Venmo account to which the payment must be made, will be given to teams in an email that will be released next week. Be on the lookout for that!

PACE Qualification
This tournament will be a qualifier for the 2021 PACE NSC.

How many rounds should we expect to have? How long should the whole thing take?
