Prison Bowl XII Online (September 14, 2019)

Post by Berniecrat »

Groger Ranks is pleased to announce that we will be hosting an online discord mirror of Prison Bowl XII for high school teams. This is last year’s iteration of Prison Bowl and so teams that play this can still play the upcoming Prison Bowl XIII later in the spring! Prison Bowl is an hs regs+ set and we expect the set to play as well as past iterations have. More details about the set can be found here: https://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic ... 09&t=21605

This tournament will be closed to high schoolers, so only high schoolers can play and they can only play with teammates who attend the same school as them. Pseudonyms are allowed upon request if needed. Unlike our earlier mirror of ILLIAC, we will not be allowing “chimeras” (teams made up of people from multiple schools) to play. The tentative field cap is 8 teams. If we exceed this number, we will definitely increase the field.

On that note, as this is an online tournament, it will not provide the same experience as an in-person mirror. For any teams with in-person mirrors nearby, we strongly urge that they consider attending those instead. This online mirror is meant mostly for teams that don't have mirrors nearby or have other conflicts on the day of their nearest mirror. Additionally, if any teams played Prison Bowl XII last year, that obviously means they shouldn’t be playing this tournament.

The date for this tournament is September 14, 2019. The registration fee is $40 per team, with teams made up of solo players only needing to pay $35.

The link to register can be found here:‪ ‬https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... qG60grecik

‪Thank you so much and we hope to see you at Prison Bowl XII Online!‬

A common question to the post centered on what constituted “school affiliation”. I have edited the post to clarify that school affiliation means playing only with people who attend the same school, not that teams are required to play under their school name.

The two teams are in a voice chatroom where they can hear the moderator read the questions. There is a corresponding text chatroom where the players can type "buzz" to buzz. They are usually run on either Discord or Skype.

The mirror happened today. Congratulations to Uni Lab from Illinois for winning in the first game of an advantaged final 505-100 against fellow Illinoisans Nonvit! Full statistics can be found here: https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/5861/

Thank you to everyone who came to staff and play today! While there were some logistical mishaps, we still finished ahead of schedule, which is impressive for any online tournament nowadays.

A full email will be sent to the teams either today or tomorrow with the category breakdown of statistics thanks to Shawrisheets.

A special thanks to Hunter for allowing us to use this high quality set! If you couldn't attend this mirror, we highly recommend that you find a Prison Bowl XII mirror near you.
