Maryland NAQT Championships

Hammond High School will be hosting the Maryland NAQT Championships on March 25, 2006.

Eligibility, entry fees, number of teams, and other such things will be determined at a later date, just be sure to put us on your calenders.

I had not noticed how buried this post had become.

Anyway, the Maryland HS NAQT championships are two weeks away, and registration remains open for one final week.

An added bonus for this year's teams: all teams receive the complete question set with their registration.

Only Maryland and D.C. schools are eligible for the competition.

i fixed the link. Thanks for the headsup. I always forget that phpbb adds a period at the end of the link if you put it at the end of a sentence.

The field on the site is about 70% up to date. I know Richard Montgomery has 2 teams that are coming, for example, and I'm sure that my email this weekend will bring plenty of responses on Monday. We are expecting a field of 40 teams.

Is there still only 16 teams signed up, or have more signed up since the announcement at WJ (which was well run). Hope to see some more teams (like Blair) on Saturday.

Yeah we'll be there. Can I unofficially register one team and one buzzer system here?
Our coach should be sending an official registration thing tommorow.
I also assume that's $50?

I have not received a message from Blair yet officially. That needs to be via email to [email protected]. We have extended the registration until Thursday at 2 p.m.

So this is a very competitive group, even if it is a bit small, it will obviously be a challenging tournament.

Results wise, Richard Montgomery won over all with Chris R being the top scorer of the day. Tied for second were Blair, Whitman, and Walter Johnson, I believe.

Any feedback on the tournament is welcome here. We will be deciding during the next month or so if we wish to bid again for hosting again next Spring. Your comments will help us determine that.

Here are few comments about the tournament. First, some of the readers earlier on were a little confused about the NAQT rules, such as not reading the power mark or not skipping bonuses even if the toss up was missed. However, by the end of the day the readers seemed to get the hang of everything. Also, while it's creative to give out board games (or reference books like you did at the Green Eggs and Hammond tournament), trophies are still better since most schools have a trophy case, but few have a board game cupboard. But maybe that's just my team's opinion.

Certainly fair comments. It was our school's first NAQT hosting, so we definitely learned quite a bit about what the readers need to know. All of the readers had read before at Green Eggs, so they at least at that part down.

As for trophies, we're probably always going to be the oddballs, but we try to provide something useful to the teams instead of trophies that are forgotten about a couple years later. It is fun to get them, though.

Congrats on a great finish, by the way.

Also, I just added the team power/tossup/interrupt stats, too. And final overall records/standings.

ER's record was actually 6-4. They lost to RMA WJA and us(gonzaga) in the prelims.
I thought the tournament was run very efficiently. My only complaint was that some readers were unfamiliar with toss-up bonus and a few were difficult to understand. I know in our last game against Blair(which was very close 60 or 70 points) we had a reader who was really hard to understand and I negged on two questions that I would of gotten and those questions might of changed the outcome of that game.
Other than that it was a really well-run tournament and I'd like to compliment Hammond for a job well done.
