The 2018 Dunbar Bulldog Tournament for middle school and JV is scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd.

The cost is $70 per team and we are planning on using an NAQT A set for the JV division and an NAQT MS set for the middle school division. We will also have house-written worksheets at half-time of each match. Registration begins at 8:30 AM, and we're asking that nobody arrive before 8:30 AM due to conflicts with another event taking place at the same venue; tournament play begins at 9:15 AM.

We will have a five-game round robin in the morning, after which the teams will be rebracketed and play another round robin in the afternoon. More information regarding the sets and other matters to come.

Edit: We have confirmed that we will be using NAQT 180A for the JV division and MS 28 for the middle school division.

Fleming County High School will be hosting the 21st Fleming County Academic Tournament at FCHS in Flemingsburg. We're slated for January 12th (that is one week later than past years due to a later return date from break). Other details will also be pretty much the same:

$70 for a school's first team
$35 for additional squads
Tentative cap of 32 teams.
NAQT will be our question source again. (IS 179)
We'll play 18 toss up halves with single part bonuses
We will have separate "B" and varsity divisions
We will seek PACE affiliation.
Teams will need to provided: working buzzer and a reader/scorer.

More details as they become available

I want to thank all of the schools who supported this year's Scottie! The 2018 Scottie was a lot of fun. We had a great time writing the questions and look forward to feedback so that we can get better.

Chattahoochee, Miami Valley, and Detroit Catholic Central A beat up on each other a little bit to finish 1, 2, 3 in that order. Henderson County A and Dunbar A were also right there, finishing 4th and 5th after taking some very close and competitive losses. Full results, in order, can be seen here:

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... l_results/

We look forward to seeing everyone on August 24th next year! We will always have the Scottie on the last Saturday in August, unless it is Labor Day weekend, which will happen in 2019.

Each participating team may enter 3 students in each of the following written assessment areas: Arts and Humanities, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each student will be allowed to take only one test as there will be only one testing session. At the time of your arrival, please check with our registration desk and notify them of any changes made in your registration form. Testing numbers may be assigned at this time. Any student not registered by 8:30 will not be eligible for the testing session. The testing session will begin at 8:45 AM and conclude at 9:35 AM. All tests will be occurring simultaneously. All students will stay in the testing room for the entire testing time. Awards will be given to the top 10 competitors in each subject area.

Lightning Round Procedures
Following Written Assessment, students will compete individually in a preliminary round of 10 subject-specific tossups in groups of 8. The top 8 scores (ties broken by written assessment scores first, and then head-to-head sudden-death to advance to finals) will qualify to compete a second and final round of 15 more subject-specific tossups following the Quick Recall championship match and preceding the awards ceremony. Students must participate in Written Assessment in order to qualify to participate in the Lightning Rounds. Students must compete in the same Lightning Round subject as they did for Written Assessment. Awards will be given to the top 8 competitors in each subject area with a trophy awarded to the champion.

Quick Recall Procedures
Quick Recall matches will begin following Lightning Rounds. At least three preliminary rounds will be played to establish rankings. The teams will be seeded and placed into pools with teams with similar records for at least three more Quick Recall rounds. All teams are guaranteed at least six rounds of Quick Recall.
Match rules will follow all Governor’s Cup guidelines.
• The decisions of all room officials will be final in the morning rounds with written inquiries used only in Pool A and Pool B in the afternoon rounds.
• Seeding after the preliminary rounds and rankings to determine placements at the end of the tournament for Quick Recall will follow these criteria in order:
o Win-loss record in pool
o Head-to-head record
o Average first-half points (in all rounds played)
o Coin toss
• The top eight teams will be seeded equally between the top two pools in the afternoon. Seeds 1, 3, 5, and 7 will compete in Pool A and seeds 2, 4, 6, and 8 will compete in Pool B.
• A Quick Recall championship match will be played after the final round of pool play between the champion of Pool A and the champion of Pool B.
*Additional rounds may be necessary depending on the number of teams in competition.

T Shirts
Tournament t shirts will be included with the team registration fee for up to four players. Additional shirts may be purchased for only $8 each. The shirts are white with red ink and will have the tournament logo design featured at the top of this form. To ensure all of your players who want shirts receive them, include shirt fees with your registration fees. Additional shirts sold at the tournament will be limited.

Food and Lunch
Our academic team will be having concessions throughout the day. Snacks and soft drinks will be available throughout the day.
• Because this is a fundraiser for our team, please encourage your team to purchase snacks from our concessions table. Everything will cost $1 or less.
o Please do not bring coolers or large amounts of snacks for your team. We appreciate your support of our school and our team’s fundraiser.
We will be selling $5 lunch plates that consist of two slices of pizza, a dessert, and a drink.
• Teams should not plan to leave the campus during lunch as we would like to get started back as soon as possible after lunch.
A hospitality room will be provided for coaches, bus drivers and officials. Team parents and team members are expected to purchase lunch plates.

Silent Auction
We will be hosting a silent auction as a fundraiser. Please inform your team members to bring some extra cash. We will have a wide range of products appealing to students and adults such as toys, electronics, gift cards, and household items.

Officials and Equipment
All schools participating must provide at least one EXPERIENCED moderator AND a functioning buzzer system with laptop if needed. High school students may be used in any official capacity. Middle school students may serve as spotters, buzzer operators, or scorers. Also, additional persons to act as scorers and spotters would be greatly appreciated. SCHOOLS PROVIDING A PRE-APPROVED ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCED MODERATOR WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $10 REGISTRATION FEE WAIVER (ONLY ONE WAIVER PER SCHOOL).

KIQBC

Post by Scottietodd »

Hello everyone.

I thought our first ever Individual Championship in Kentucky went well today! We had 36 students from across the state to compete, and I hope everyone had a good time.

Angus Maske of Dunbar defeated Shashank Bhatt, also of Dunbar to be named our first ever KIQBC champion.
Harrison Jenkins and DJ Banks, both from Henderson County finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

Emily Girard of Simon Kenton, Mason Reid of Glasgow, Max Bograd of Dunbar, and Garrett Ashlock of Central Hardin were the other quarterfinalists.

In our side events, DJ Banks won the Arts & Humanities, Shashank Bhatt won Science, Jake Powell won History, and Angus Maske won Literature.
Congratulations to all of you!

Maybe..... I plan on enlisting Ramapriya, and he and I will try to come up with a way to format the data in an understandable manner. However,
this will most likely be after Gov Cup State on March 16-18.

Thanks for your interest!

Just as an early FYI: Glasgow High School will LIKELY be hosting the 2019 Scottie on Saturday, September 14th this year and the 2nd Saturday of September in the future. There is still a chance that we will keep it during the last weekend of August (except for when on Labor Day weekend like this year).

It's early but I wanted to go on and get an early date claim for next year.

Fleming County High School will host FCAT 2020 on January 11, 2020.

More details will be available in the fall, but there shouldn't be any major changes from past years. We will likely use an available NAQT set, slightly modified for toss up and single part paired bonuses.

We will also seek PACE affiliation and hope to avoid the weather issues that plagued the tournament this year.

Along those same lines, I want to let everyone know that we are moving the Scottie to the third Saturday in September beginning this year. So the Scottie will be on September 21, 2019.

Thanks!
