New England date claims '17-'18

Post by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov »

I thought now would be a good time to get an idea of next year's tournament schedule in New England. Lexington will probably host a tournament mirroring a set TBD, sometime in December, expect more details later.

September -
16 - Yale FaCT (NAQT IS-169A) http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =1&t=20234
30 - Plymouth Regional High School (NAQT IS-167A) http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... t=plymouth

October -
14 - MIT Fall Tournament (RMBCT) http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... t=mit+fall
21 - Darien Invitational III (DEFT) , New Hampshire History Bee and Bowl (NHBB)
28 - Central Massachusetts Fall Tournament (NAQT IS-171A) , Harvard Penn Bowl Mirror (College difficulty)

November -
11 - HFT (HFT) http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =1&t=20218

December -
9 - Phillips Academy Winter Tournament (IS-170)

January -
6 - LIIIMIT (WHAQ II)

February -
10 - BHSAT (BHSAT)

March -
31 - ATHENA II (ATHENA II)

April -
27-29 - NAQT SSNCT (Chicago)

May -
25-27 - NAQT HSNCT (Atlanta)

June -
2-3 - PACE NSC (DC)

purple = NAQT set
red = housewritten/PACE distribution set
green = NHBB tournament

If anyone wants to venture south, Hunter is mirroring SCOP Novice on 10/28 (probably) and running Prison Bowl XI on 3/24 (almost certainly).

Plymouth Regional High School in New Hampshire would tentatively like to claim the date of September 30, 2017. We will be mirroring the newly-created University of Maryland house write set, a regular-difficulty high school set, following standard NAQT rules. We are setting a cap at 24 and would love to see teams from New Hampshire join us, as well as teams from other states to get the season off and running.

AMSA would like to claim October 28, 2017 for the Central Mass Fall Tournament (Name subject to clever upgrade).

We're hoping to host an event this year that isn't snowed out, but just in case, October 29 will be the snow day! Sunday tournaments are rare, but after last year, probably preferable to driving in 2 ft of snow.

Quick note that the Plymouth Regional Inaugural Tournament is indeed on for September 30, but we are not using Maryland Fall nor WHAQ II, as Jacob informed us that Lexington may be mirroring that set later in the year. We are going to use IS167A. Tournament details are in the tournament forum.

Hopefully there will not be any major snowstorms, but just in case, Sunday, December 10 would be the snow day.

Hanover High will be hosting the OATH on IS-172 on Saturday, March 3. We're the only New England host slated to use this set, and therefore hope to attract teams from New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and perhaps other states in the region. If you've any interest in attending, drop me a line :party:

AMSA will be hosting a Middle School tournament on March 10. We'll be using NAQT questions. We'd really love to see a more active Middle School circuit in Massachusetts so get out to your feeder schools and recruit! This will improve quiz bowl for all of our teams! It's also an opportunity for High School kids to gain leadership experience and community service hours. More details to come!

I'm not sure how many teams are affected by this, but National History Bowl is the weekend of the 21st and SSNCT is the weekend of the 28th.

I believe NHBB Nationals is actually the same weekend as SSNCT. Regardless, we're aware that this does mean that some cannot attend the tournament if it were to be held on the 28th, but unfortunately, there's very little we can do about it. If we hold it on the 21st, we don't have that specific issue, but the 21st is the end of the April break for MA public high schools, so that is something we're taking into account. Again, if teams have any preference one way or another, please let us know so we can figure out a date that could work for the most teams in the area!

EDIT: We have decided on holding our tournament on the 28th and will be mirroring Prison Bowl. Thanks to all teams that voiced their preferences!

I've been informed A-B is no longer holding their tournament. They've registered for the OATH, which we're hosting on the same date. We'd welcome registrations from AMSA, Belmont, and any other Mass. teams that felt like making the trek up to Hanover.

Harvard is almost certainly going to mirror the Stevenson Memorial Tournament (SMT) in March/April. While it is geared for college students, we also encourage high schools to consider playing as it will be good practice for nationals.
