Livingston HS March Madness 2017 (NAQT IS-164) - March 18, 2017

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!

I am pleased to announce that Livingston HS, in Livingston, NJ, will be hosting its annual tournament - this year on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/4151/

SET: We are going to be using NAQT set IS-164.

TEAMS: We can physically host up to 48 teams. However, we are going to have a soft cap at 36 teams and, if sufficient demand warrants and we are able to secure sufficient readers and buzzers, will up the number of teams to 42 with a hard cap of 48 teams. Initially, I will take a cap of 3 teams per school and, by February 14, approximately one month before the tournament, will put all additional teams per school into the field. For the moment, all teams beyond 3 will be put on the wait list.

ROUNDS: We are planning on a round robin of preliminary rounds (depending on number of teams) followed by lunch and then playoffs to follow. We aim to let each team have at least 10 rounds.

START TIME: Check in/registration between 8 - 8:30 with a moderator meeting at 8:30 and a welcome at 8:45 with round 1 to start at 9:00. We aim to be done with the tournament by 6:00.

FOOD: A great, high quality bagel (with butter and cream cheese) and orange juice breakfast will be provided free of charge. We will be selling pizzas in the morning (order them that morning upon arriving to check in) at $12 per pie (please bring cash and as close to exact change as possible), as well as selling slices, waters, sodas, DELICIOUS homemade baked goods, and other food/snacks throughout the day, most all of which will cost $1 each. This is our team fundraiser so we would appreciate your support!

FEES:
$80 for the first team
$70 for each additional team from the same school
Discounts of $10 for each EXPERIENCED moderator (as needed) and $5 for each buzzer set (as needed)
Max discount of $35 per school

HOW TO REGISTER: Registration will constitute a TEAM COACH/ADVISOR filling out the following Google Form:

https://goo.gl/forms/v6TK0v9hVt5jc3r72

This confirms your attendance and registration as well as how many (if any) buzzer systems and/or moderators you will be able to bring. Our email is [email protected] which you can use for any further inquiries. Information/field updates will also be posted and updated on this hsquizbowl.org forum here so please check/monitor this. Please understand that posting on the forum does not constitute officially registering nor any official communication with the team. Email is the best way to communicate any possible concerns or questions.

PAYMENT: Please make all checks out to "Livingston High School" and either bring with you to the tournament or mail to the below address at my (Guy Rabner) attention. Please try to make sure that payment is in by tournament time. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, please let us know ASAP or by March 3, so that we can send you the invoice in sufficient time.

Livingston High School is located at 30 Robert H. Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ 07039-2634. We're close to major interstates and only a 1/2 hour drive to Manhattan.

Looking forward to seeing you in March! Wish for no snow and nice weather, and an easy winter!

Hi all,

With about 2 weeks to go, the tournament field has been updated above and the initial cap of 36 has been reached. Also, a wait list has been started, currently with 1 teams. There is a strong possibility that the field will be expanded to 42 or even 48 teams depending on future registration and future moderator availability.

With 25 buzzers and 36 teams we have excess so I am going to limit buzzer reimbursements at this juncture since we have gone beyond need.

There is, however, a need for experienced moderators/readers if we are to expand so please let us know if you are available and/or would like to read. Thanks.

All those who have registered, please check the field and confirm that it is, in fact, correct. Also, please confirm with your students that they have committed, please, to not necessitate any unforeseen last minute drops. An email went out this week to ask for an email confirmation of your commitment. Thank you.

Please email us, also, if there is a need to for an invoice for your school.

We're very excited to host our tournament once again! :) Thanks!

Hello all,

With a little more than 1 week left before our tournament, we have updated the tournament field above. At this juncture, we have a full field of 36 teams AND a wait list of 7 teams. Once we have confirmed that all teams are, in fact, committed to attending the tournament, we will happily increase the field to 42 teams, taking the teams from the wait list. However, we don't anticipate making this decision until Wednesday of next week or until we've heard back from all teams who have yet to confirm. If you are attending this tournament and have yet to confirm, please do so ASAP, responding to the email that went out last week. Thank you!

Hunter swept the field and the day to win this year's March Madness going away, defeating Lehigh Valley in the final crossover. High Tech A took 3rd place defeating Downingtown STEM. Thank you to all who competed today. We hope you had fun. Stats for prelims and afternoon playoffs and crossovers are posted on the tournament page (to the best of our ability). We hope all who competed will come back next year!
