Hopefully, all registered teams received this email, but in case you didn't, here's some details about Saturday's tournament.

Happy New Year! Thanks for registering for the MATCH Quiz Bowl tournament being held Saturday, January 7 at AMSA in Marlborough. Here’s some details to help you.

First, please check the field list and let us know right away if there are any errors.

Schedule: Registration will be from 8:15 am to 8:45 am with our goal of starting our first round at 9:00.

Directions: AMSA is located at 201 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA. It is best reached from Interstate 495, exit 23C. We share a driveway with the sports facility ForeKicks. AMSA has several buildings – we will be meeting in the building called the Upper School, which is on your right once you drive around the first building on campus and of course, we’ll have signs up to guide you. Feel free to park in the visitor parking spots or anywhere on campus.

Lunch: When you register, we’ll give you a map showing nearby restaurants. Basically, there is nothing within easy walking distance, but plenty of choices to drive to. We’ll also be offering pizza for sale: $5 will buy 2 slices of cheese pizza and a bottle of water. Please let us know at registration how many people will buy the pizza lunch. Of course, bringing a packed lunch is always an option - there are vending machines in our cafeteria selling juices and allegedly healthy snacks.

Payment: Registration is $80 for the first team and $75 for any additional teams. There is a $5 discount for each working buzzer and staffer you contribute. Payment is expected during morning registration on tournament day. Please make checks payable to AMSA Charter School and put “Quiz Bowl” in the memo if possible. Our plan is to give all schools a receipt on letterhead during registration. If you need an invoice ahead of time, please let us know.

Rosters: If you know your teams’ rosters, please email the names to [email protected]. This helps us enter data ahead of time and speeds up the registration process. You can also let us know the morning of the tournament.

Wifi: Our plan is to be able to have a guest password available for coaches and parents on Saturday but sometimes AMSA is weird about things like that. It might be best to have a back-up plan.

Question Set: We will be using NAQT’s IS-162 set. Please make sure you are not planning on entering any other tournaments using this set. (you can find a list here: Copies of the question set will be made available (for practice use only) after the tournament at a cost of $10. Please let us know if you’d like one.

Tournament Play: We will have 10 rounds of play for every team. In the morning, there will be bracketed round-robin play with most likely 5 rounds. We will break for lunch during which individual top scorers will be recognized. Teams will be re-bracket according to their morning results and play 5 more rounds after lunch. Any ties will be broken by points per bonus. At the end of afternoon play, there will be an advantaged final to determine the Tournament Champion.

Hopefully we have answered any questions you may have. If not, please ask! We look forward to seeing you all for a fun day of buzzing on Saturday!

Plymouth Regional has 2 teams registered, but we have enough interest to fill a C team. It looks like as of now 23 teams are in. If you have room for another team, we would like to bring a third team.

I am posting the request here because our internal e-mail server is not delivering outside mail to us presently.
