2015 Maryland Fall Available for Mirrors

Post by Jem Casey »

I am delighted to announce that Maryland Fall, a regular-difficulty tournament written by the University of Maryland team, will be available for mirrors throughout the 2015-2016 season. More specifically, the set will be available from October 3rd, 2015 until the end of Spring 2016.

The set is being written by a team of talented writers from UMD and head-edited by myself, with Brian McPeak, the man behind the best science ever submitted to ACF Nationals, guest-editing the science. You can look forward to a set jam-packed with the same sort of creative and rewarding clues which have distinguished the Maryland Springs of years past, but with a greater emphasis on accessible early clues and reasonable hard parts than last year's iteration.

The set will feature power-marks and consist of fourteen packets. The distribution, which is the same as last year's Maryland Spring, is as follows:

4/4 Literature (at least 1/1 each American, British, European, .5/.5 one more of the above, .5/.5 World)
4/4 Science (1/1 biology, 1/1 chemistry, 1/1 physics, 1/1 other science, with a heavy focus on math)
4/4 History (1/1 American, 2/2 European/British/Ancient, 1/1 World, Canadian/Australian where appropriate in context)
2.5/2.5 Religion, Myth, Philosophy (1/1 each Religion and Myth, .5/.5 Philosophy)
2.5/2.5 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual and 1/1 Auditory guaranteed per packet, .5/.5 one more of the above)
.5/.5 Social Science
.5/.5 Miscellaneous and Mixed*
1/1 Geography/Current Events (approx. .66/.66 Geo, .34/.34 CE)
1/1 Trash/Pop Culture

The mirror fee is $10 per team attending. Please email me at jbrownst (at) terpmail (dot) umd (dot) edu if you have any questions or are interested in using the set! We're having a great time producing a quality set, and we'd love to see it played across the country.
