VTACO at Virginia Tech (1/31/15)
Virginia Tech will be hosting its iteration of its VTACO set on January 31, 2015. We are aware that this is the same day as VHSL Conference deadline, but, as of yet, no conference has scheduled their event for that date itself. It will be held on our campus in Blacksburg, VA.
PACE Qualification
This tournament has been awarded Platinum certification from the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence. This means that the top 25% of teams from this tournament will earn a bid to PACE's National Scholastic Championship in Reston, VA (outside Washington, D.C.) on June 6-7, 2015.
Location
The tournament will take place on the third floor of McBryde Hall (225 Stanger Street). Teams will meet in Room 304 before play begins.
Registration
Registration will begin at 8:30, with play beginning at 9:00.
Fees and Discounts
Base fee: $60
Working buzzer set: -$5
Competent Moderator: -$10
Scorekeeper: -$5
Travel (in excess of 200 miles one-way as determined by the TD): -$5/200 miles
The minimum fee per team is $40
To register, please contact Matt Fleischer via email at ([email protected]) with the coach's contact information, including a phone number where the coach can be reached on the day of the tournament, the number of teams, and any expected discounts.
Team Size and Eligibility
Teams are limited to six players, four of which may play at any one time. If a school wishes to bring more than six players, they must register an additional team.
Format
The field is initially capped at around 12-14 teams, but may be expanded if resources allow. Teams in excess of the cap will be placed on a waitlist and allowed into the field in order.
Field (Teams/Buzzers/Staffers)
Reese's Pieces (Loudoun County) 1/0/0
Blacksburg 3/3/0
Cave Spring 3/2/0
New Kent 1/0/0
Western Albemarle 1/1/0
Interested
Hidden Valley (one team)
The exact tournament schedule will be determined by field size closer to the tournament date; however, we will guarantee a minimum of nine rounds.
Any questions about this tournament can be sent to Matt Fleischer ([email protected]).

Re: VTACO at Virginia Tech (1/31/15)
Congratulations to Western Albemarle for winning today's tournament. Cave Spring A finished second, and Loudoun County came in third. All three of these teams will also receive bids to this year's PACE National Scholastic Championship. We want to thank everyone who came out to play this tournament, and we hope you all had a good time! A private specific-question discussion forum as well as stats from this tournament will be posted in the very near future.
