Hello everyone! Happy Holidays!

I am pleased to announce that Livingston HS, in Livingston, NJ, will be hosting its annual tournament - this year on Saturday, February 7, 2014.

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/2754/

SET: We are going to be using NAQT set IS-142 (this was used at Henderson (PA) in November and will be used at Lexington (MA) in December)

TEAMS: We can physically host up to 48 teams. However, we are going to have a soft cap at 36 teams and, if sufficient demand warrants and we are able to secure sufficient readers and buzzers, will up the number of teams to 42 with a hard cap of 48 teams. Initially, I will take a cap of 3 teams per school and, by January 7, one month before the tournament, will put all additional teams per school into the field. For the moment, all teams beyond 3 will be put on the wait list.

ROUNDS: We are planning on a round robin of preliminary rounds (depending on number of teams) followed by lunch and then playoffs to follow. We aim to let each team have at least 10 rounds.

START TIME: Check in/registration between 8 - 8:30 with a moderator meeting at 8:30 and a welcome at 8:45 with round 1 to start at 9:00. We aim to be done with the tournament by 6:00.

FOOD: A great, high quality bagel (with butter and cream cheese) and orange juice breakfast will be provided free of charge. We will be selling pizzas in the morning (order them that morning upon arriving to check in) at $12 per pie (please bring cash and as close to exact change as possible), as well as selling slices, waters, sodas, home made baked goods, and other food/snacks throughout the day, most all of which will cost $1 each. This is our team fundraiser so we would appreciate your support!

FEES:
$80 for the first team
$70 for each additional team from the same school
Discounts of $15 for each moderator (as needed) and $10 for each buzzer set (as needed)
Max discount of $45 per school

HOW TO REGISTER: HOW TO REGISTER: Registration will constitute a TEAM COACH/ADVISOR filling out the following Google Form: http://goo.gl/forms/wlFu1emQnu
This confirms your attendance and registration as well as how many (if any) buzzer systems and/or moderators you will be able to bring. Our email is [email protected] which you can use for any further inquires. Information/field updates will also be posted and updated on this hsquizbowl.org forum here so please check/monitor this. Please understand that posting on the forum does not constitute officially registering nor any official communication with the team. Email is the best way to communicate any possible concerns or questions.

PAYMENT: Please make all checks out to "Livingston High School" and either bring with you to the tournament or mail to the below address at my (Guy Rabner) attention. Please try to make sure that payment is in by tournament time. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, please let us know ASAP or by January 24 so that we can send you the invoice in sufficient time.

Livingston High School is located at 30 Robert H. Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ 07039-2634. We're close to major interstates and only a 1/2 hour drive to Manhattan.

Looking forward to seeing you in February! Wish for no snow and nice weather!

Guy

We have now reached our soft cap of 36 teams (see field update above). Thus, we have placed the other schools/teams on the wait list until we, potentially, reach 42 and then our hard cap of 48 teams. However, in order to raise our cap (and, frankly, even manage our current soft cap) we will need more readers and buzzers. This being the case, to the extent that you can help out here, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected]

We have now reached are next "soft cap" benchmark of 42 teams (note updated field above). With 3 teams on the wait list and still 6 weeks until tournament time, we are close to our 48 team hard cap. All teams that have an interest in competing, please register soon. Also, all teams who are already in the field, please confirm that these number of teams are correct and that your players are committed to competing on this date so that we can minimize the number of last minute (in the week leading up to the tournament) drops. Lastly, also to those teams in the field, please see if you can help supply any additional buzzers and/or moderators and let us know ASAP. While we have the physical space to host 48 teams, without sufficient buzzer systems and readers, we cannot accommodate 48 (or even 42) teams at this point. Thank you!

I have sent an email, a potentially final one, out to all teams on the above field list. Please review the email or let us know if you did not receive it. We are at 19 schools and 42 teams with an empty wait list and hopefully we don't move from here as it will make any scheduling much tougher. Teams have had ample time to confirm attendance at this point.

We are also in need, once again, of buzzers and moderators. We need at least 21 functioning buzzer systems and, including ours, have about 19 with ZERO cushion for teams forgetting to bring them and/or ones that don't work. Also, all teams combined teams are bringing only 3 moderators.... which is very few. We can provide many moderators but in order to avoid desk slapping/buzz yelling rooms, we hope some teams will agree to bring some buzzer systems and/or provide qualified moderators to make the tournament run well and smoothly. Please let us know if you would be willing to staff this and/or help us out here. Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing all teams on Saturday!

With multiple drops over the past week and one more yesterday we are now down to an awkward 41 number. Still 4 more days for teams to drop out but if it stays this way, we may need another team. Any takers?

Thanks to all teams for coming to Livingston HS and competing in our annual tournament today! We hope you all had fun and will come back next year. We played 10 rounds + a crossover round for playoff teams and High Tech A emerged victorious in the final crossover for 1st place over Hunter A. Games were completed by 4:45, too! Thanks, too, to all people who all of my players and those volunteered to read, score an generally just help make things run smoothly. There are too many of you to name!

Complete stats can be found here. http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/2754/

I really enjoyed the tournament. However, I did notice an error in the stats uploaded to the site. It states that Real Madrid had 5 losses when they only had 4. (The WWPN A v Real Madrid game is recorded wrong, Madrid won rather than WWPN A and the numbers for the bonuses are reversed).
