Greetings:

E. O. Smith High School Academic Quiz Bowl and IQConn are pleased to announce Connecticut Invitational VI, which will take place on February 21st, 2015 at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. We will be using NAQT IS-144.This is the sixth annual tournament with the purpose of promoting quiz bowl in southern New England. New England teams are strongly encouraged to attend.
The date has been chosen carefully based on the myriad conflicts that happen this time of year. Nevertheless, I wish to acknowledge the problem with Massachusetts' school calendar. I am truly sorry for the conflict, but alas, UConn's Science Bowl is March 7th, and other dates are already taken. I am announcing a month earlier than last year to try to encourage attendance from those MA schools that can pull together a team, despite vacation.
Registration will begin at 8:15 AM with the first round beginning at 9:00 AM. Though it is difficult to know exactly when the tournament will end, it is safe to assume sometime in the early evening around 5 or 6 PM.

Registration information for the tournament is as follows:

Base fee, first team: $80
Additional teams: $70
Working buzzer system: -$5 each
Moderator: -$5 each

Please make checks payable to: E. O. Smith Academic Quiz Bowl. Please plan to pay on arrival at the tournament.

A copy of the registration form can be obtained by emailing the tournament director at [email protected]. You may also use this email for any questions you may have about the tournament.

For those concerned about transportation, a map and driving directions will be sent upon registering. Storrs, CT is located in the Northeastern part of the state, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1 hour, 45 minutes from Boston and 2 hours 45 minutes from New York City (it’s also about 3 hours from Hanover, NH).

We hope that you will join us February 21st, 2015 for Connecticut Invitational VI at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

Hello all! Field is tightening up! We are firm at limiting to 24 teams--makes for a smooth tourney! Register or confirm your registration soon!

On another note, we are short on buzzers. If you can beg borrow or steal a set, please bring it. Consider buying one, too... the less expensive sets can be paid for by the discounts you get when registering for tourneys.

Thanks!

Hello--just applied for PACE platinum, our usual level of certification. Assuming we get it, this would qualify the top 25% of teams at our tourney for the NSC.
Only a few slots left folks!

Hello--I will be sending out tournament details (as well as posting them here) tomorrow (2/16). In the meantime, if everyone could confirm their team and players, I'd appreciate it. You don't have to communicate with me if your school details haven't changed, but we are at exactly 24 teams right now, and I would love to remain there if possible. If not, I'd like to know soon, so I can get a sense of the bracketing. Thanks.

Hello--just had one team drop, so if anyone would like to grab their spot it is ripe for the plucking! We'd love to have a last minute entry here--keeps the field at 24!

Spot still open? Kellenberg might be able to scrap up a team for it. I'll let you know as soon as they respond.

UPDATE: We are a "go" if the spot is still available.

Hello--
CT INV VI is still a "go", despite the weather. We will be running a slightly shorter/simpler tourney to get everyone on the road before the snow starts. To help with planning, please email me if you ARE coming, or please email me if you ARE NOT coming. Thanks.

Bishop Guertin would like to commend and thank everyone at E.O. Smith (and presumably UConn) for a very well-run and enjoyable tournament. Too bad that the weather did not cooperate, but you guys certainly handled the situation very well. And congrats to Lexington, Darien, and Kellenberg on their great finishes!
