TEXAS 2014-15 - A BRAVE NEW QB WORLD

Having been on a year's sabbatical in London studying Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art in the University of London and [mostly] through private, directed readings, I have come back to Texas / Cistercian and have been trying to figure out the old saw about 'who's up; who's down; who's out; who's in' -- and I have not been making a lot of progress.

Perhaps this is just a simple function of the season's new and more results will tell me more.

In any case, Texas and the Southwest have always been great places to play QB, so, if anyone wishes to enlighten the now 60+ year-old faculty advisor at Cistercian, please feel free to do so!

It's GREAT being back in Texas @ Cistercian!

Here are some hilariously underinformed opinions about the Texas circuit.

Traditional powerhouses:
LASA - A team (CorEthan, Alex, and Forrest) is predicted to be the best in the nation, again. A few of the other LASA teams will probably do well enough to get into the playoffs at HSNCT.
Harmony - Still has Henry and Ali. Will do well.

Rising teams:
Village - Got t-34th. Will improve.
Cistercian - Got t-53rd. Loses David and Mitchell.
St. Mark - I know they keep Burke but otherwise I don't know enough to make a judgement.
Cinco Ranch - Amol Patil is good at getting points.

Recovering:
St. John's - A team loses everyone but Deven. Andy Huff is still there, so they will probably make playoffs.
Seven Lakes - Loses Andi Qi and Arthur, keeps Sameer and Adesh. Might make playoffs.
Reagan - A team loses everyone but Sam Lin, who is only a junior now. Will probably make playoffs if backed up by the former t-77th B team.

For better predictions by another non-Texan, hsqbrank did pretty well at looking at teams.

Thanks for the updates about TEAM TEXAS.

Since the late September posting, of course, things continue to remain
fluid with a lot of teams, esp. Cistercian. We are continually trying out
new and different combinations of students to see where we'll find our
most significant strengths.

Also, our 'rebuilding' program is in year 2 of a 3 year program, as we are
both expanding the # of students who play and including more of just
about everything.

But, the time it takes for rebuilding with a staff of 2 is a bit exhausting.

@ St. Mark's tournament on Jan. 10th, it was nice to see an Oklahoma team,
Norman North, I believe, play really well and win the varsity division.

It really is a most positive thing to see so much inter-state play with
Oklahoma.

We've been up there twice (north of Red River, I mean) and both experiences
have been great!

Oklahoma is, indeed, OK!

More thoughts and updates later!

Cistercian is OFF to Rice U. for REACT on Friday,
with the competition running on Saturday.

We look forward to a well-run tournament, lots of good competition,
and a chance to compete against teams we haven't met during this
past school year!

Rain or Shine, it's ALL QB, ALL THE TIME!

Irving/Grapevine/Dallas Texas was the site for an exciting Middle School NAQT nationals tournament on May 9-10, 2015

While all of the pertinent results may be found on the NAQT website, I just wanted to comment on how much fun
Cistercian had at the event. With 2 teams competing all day Saturday, and then our "A" team competing on Sunday
as well, it was a most busy schedule.

Perhaps the nicest news for us was the relatively strong finish which our "A" team made with only one year of experience!

Concomitant with that, of course, will be both teams joining our high school program in the Fall (over the summer?).

Thanks to all who made it happen!
