11/15/14 Clemson University 2014 Tigertown Throwdown

Post by cessing » Fri Sep 12, 2014 3:52 pm

The Clemson Academic Team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 2014 Tigertown Throwdown on Saturday November 15th 2014. This will be an official NAQT event using IS-140. This will also be a PACE Gold qualifier.

Location:
The tournament will be held in Daniel Hall on the Clemson campus. We will provide directions and maps to registered teams once it gets closer to tournament time.

Tournament schedule:
Registration will run through Friday, November 7st. No more than 4 teams per school. Total team cap of 24

Teams should arrive by 8:30 the morning of tournament. At that time we will have the introductory meeting. Competition will start promptly at 9 and any team arriving after 9 will forfeit any matches that they are not present for.

The 24 teams will be split into 3 pools 8 which will play 7 rounds of round-robin style. After those 7 rounds the top 2 teams in each pool as well as 2 wildcard teams will advance to an 8 team, single elimination playoff. Those teams which do not make the playoffs are encouraged to stay and continue playing exhibition rounds while the playoffs are happening but staying is by no means necessary.

Fee/discount rates

$75 per team base fee
-$15 discount per buzzer system
-$10 per staffer (Reader/Scorekeeper)

We encourage teams to bring as many staffers as possible as we are a small club and need as much help as we can get. I do ask that staffers have some knowledge of how to fill out an NAQT score sheet if possible as that makes the job of stat-keeping easier. That score sheet and a sample of how to fill one out can be found here https://www.naqt.com/downloads/

To register please fill out the attached registration form and email it to me, Chris Essinger, at [email protected]. We will accept payment on the day of the tournament as well as prior to the tournament. If you do wish to pay before hand, checks should be made payable to "Clemson Academic Team" and mailed to:

Chris Essinger
812 College Avenue Apartment 7
Clemson SC 29631

Receipt of payment will be given to teams when the arrive at the registration table on the morning of the tournament.

I will update this thread as the field fills out. If you have any questions do not hesitate to email me. We look forward to seeing you in Tigertown!

This event conflicts with Southside High School's regional for NHBB, which has been scheduled for some months. Many coaches in proximity to Clemson are expressing a desire that you move this event.

There is a South Carolina date-claim thread on these forums at viewtopic.php?f=50&t=16066. Please refer to that, and date claims for nearby states, in the future when scheduling events. If we are going to build a stronger quizbowl community in the Palmetto State, we need to communicate more effectively. The forums are the starting point for that.
