CMU will most likely bid for the Western PA championships for either February 28 or March 21.

Pitt will probably hold their fall IS-set tournament on 11/15 or 11/22.

We'll be keeping track of Eastern PA tournaments as well as tournaments in nearby areas on the new Southeastern Pennsylvania Quizbowl Resource website here. Anything that's posted in this thread or on hsqb should find its way over to this website.

It looks like we'll be starting our publicity push at the end of August with the first wave of email/snail mail outreach to 100+ schools in the Greater Philadelphia area informing them of the current quiz bowl tournament schedule for the year and encouraging them to develop teams and/or attend tournaments.

We do, however, want to ensure that tournaments we list are going to be quality tournaments. Hosts should be committed to running an on-time, well-organized tournament and taking steps to ensure that will happen if it did not in past iterations. We are happy to assist schools in helping to run the best possible tournaments and encourage hosts to look at the tournament hosting guide for guidance as well.

I need to move the date for Manheim Township's tournament in April back one week to April 18th. I completed all of the paperwork to get permission from our school for the event and make sure the facility would be available. And then they scheduled prom...

Website and organization name have changed (Greater Philadelphia QuizBowl or GPQB), but Ben Herman and I have finished the first personalized email wave to 112 schools in the Greater Philadelphia area. We've got another 50 or so that we're waiting to get in touch with later this month. Out of these 160+ contacts, there's about 60-70 that already have some kind of team that plays a local format. Snail mail will start going on in September to these places and we'll keep adding tournaments as new ones pop up to our schedule.

If anyone else is interested in helping out as we move to set up more in-person contacts, let me know. We'll start more posts on the website as tournaments get closer and we start hearing back from new schools.

Great Valley is hoping to host both a high school and middle school tournament this year. Details are being finalized.

GV Middle School Tournament will be December 6, 2014 using Middle School Series #11.

GV Quiz Bowl Tournament will be February 14, 2015 using IS-139A. (I know it's Valentine's Day, but we did get everyone out of the tournament by 4:30 last year so hopefully that happens again).

NHBB Northern Pennsylvania at Wyoming Area in Exeter on Feb. 7 has been switched to B Set, while the state championships (to be held in March, still looking for a host, but we're in touch with a few interested schools) will be on A Set.

Congratulations to the winners in today's Western Pennsylvania History Bee and Bowl (results): Allderdice (varsity bowl), Alagar (JV bowl), Senia Walton of South Side (varsity bee), and Rajan Alagar (JV bee).

Congratulations also to the Alagar family, who took the top four prelim spots in the JV bee and five of the ten spots in the finals; and to Norwin, for qualifying for nationals in their first pyramidal quiz bowl tournament.

NHBB's 2015 Pennsylvania History Bee and Bowl State Championships is confirmed to be held at Muhlenberg College in Allentown on Sunday, March 8 on A Set. We apologize for the clustering of dates with the C Set tournament in Phillipsburg, NJ the day before and the B Set Northern Pennsylvania tournament being moved to February 28, but we're happy to get a date confirmed for this. Pennsylvania teams are of course welcome to attend our Mid-Atlantic Championships tournament in Princeton on March 21 or our Capitol Region Championships at Centennial in Ellicott City on March 7 - both of those will run on A Set as well.

I believe that PALCS itself is mostly cyberschool, but it has certain programs that have onsite learning, or a mix of both.
