High school preview for 2013-2014?
I would like someone to do a preview for the frontpage along the lines of Sinan Ulusoy's collegiate preview (http://hsquizbowl.org/blog/). This would involve talking to some people in the know and condensing their observations into blurbs to go along with teams' ranking in Daniel's poll. Any volunteers?

Re: High school preview for 2013-2014?
I can offer blurbs, but my ability to do so will be very limited until after the 14th.

If it does, I think it should be based off of Fred's rankings, rather than the preseason poll.Standard-winged Nightjar wrote:Is this happening?

A little late, but this is happening for the midseason poll, and is being written by Lee Holden, Dylan Minarik, Collin Parks, and me. It should be finished this weekend, unless people want to have an IRC discussion like the one done for the college preseason poll.Standard-winged Nightjar wrote:Is this happening?

It shouldn't be too hard to set down a date for an IRC discussion that people can attend.

Is it possible to do this at an earlier time? As someone who does the unfashionable thing of going to bed before 10 PM, I personally would like another time, but if everyone else can make it I don't have to participate.

11 PM is the just most convenient time for me, I'm going to be busy before that. But if people don't want to have a discussion today then I'd be open to pick an earlier time for another day.Einhard wrote:Is it possible to do this at an earlier time? Re: High school preview for 2013-2014?
The podcast was a cool idea I thought, from listening back on it, discounting the numerous technical issues with people dropping and bad connections. Is there any chance anyone would be interested in setting one of these up again?

Can't believe I waded through that whole thing. Any idea for how long the preview will take to write? Also, if anyone has the technical expertise to do so, I'd be interested in talking with people about starting up some sort of a Quizbowl podcast for high school Quizbowl. I think it'd be a good way to promote the game and get a little more information about the teams in high school Quizbowl than just polls scattered throughout the season.

Re: High school preview for 2013-2014?
This is indeed going through, and after several people have contacted me/have been contacted, we will be aiming to put out something as soon as possible. The first episode of it will probably be along the lines of a midseason update/introduction, but the podcast will cover pretty much everything Quizbowl related. Hopefully this'll draw some more interest and provide some understanding into the world of high school Quizbowl!Einhard wrote:Can't believe I waded through that whole thing. Re: High school preview for 2013-2014?
Just a note: SUBMIT in California is being hosted by UC Berkeley, not UCSD. We're hosting ACF Regionals and Triton Spring (our yearly pre-nats high school tournament), facts that could have been warped by hearsay and/or the nature of all-text chats with multiple participants.
In any case, it would be incredibly exciting to see NorCal players down here at SoCal and maybe light a fire in the most+least competitive region in the nation, so I hope that Bellarmine coming to either of our tournaments is true.
