Arcadia (TBD) @ Los Angeles (11/23/13) [IS-130]

Post by bobodoll »

Arcadia Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce Arcadia (AXOLOTL). Last year we had a record amount of teams attend our season opener, and we're hoping that a greater number of teams attend this year to make the field even more competitive and diverse.

Location: Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Dr., Arcadia CA 91007.

Date: The tournament will be held on Saturday, November 23. Check-in begins at 8:00 am, and first round should begin around 9 am. Schedules will be distributed at check-in.

Format: The tournament will use NAQT IS-130. The tournament will adhere to Official NAQT Rules- excepting that each round will be run as two untimed, 10-question halves- with a preliminary round robin followed by reseeding into playoff brackets based on round robin results. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties for reseedings will be resolved based on points per bonus, followed by points per game.

As stated in the NAQT HSNCT (High School National Championship Tournament) qualification rules, the top 15% of the field will qualify for the 2014 HSNCT held in Chicago, Illinois.

Eligibility: All high school students are welcome to attend.

Pricing Structure: Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 per team after the first

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on each sides)
-$10 for traveling further than 100 miles, as calculated by Google Maps
-$10 moderator discount (tentative)
-$40 per team for schools that have not competed in a decent, mACF-style or NAQT tournament in the past 2 years (schools that claim this discount have no minimum fee).

Minimum fee = $60/team

Please make checks payable to: Arcadia High School Quiz Bowl. Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity. We would prefer you to pay on the day of the tournament, with check or cash due at the start of the tournament during registration. However, should your team wish to make alternative arrangements, please contact the Tournament Director at [email protected] to make the proper arrangements.

Prizes: The three teams will all receive trophies. Book prizes will be offered as well, to the top team from each playoff bracket, and to the top individual scorers.

Registration: The tournament director is Boyang Jiao. The advisor of this tournament will be Mr. Christopher Schultz. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, send an email to [email protected] OR reply to this thread with the following information:

1) Your school's name
2) The number of teams you are bringing
3) The number of buzzer systems you will bring
4) Any moderators you have to offer
5) Price you are expecting to pay, after subtracting relevant discounts.
6) Emergency contact information

Registration will be first come, first serve, with a waiting list if necessary

Updates about the tournament will primarily be through the hsquizbowl.org forums; in addition, they will be posted on the Southern California High School Quiz Bowl Facebook Group.

The Arcadia season opener last year actually only had 15 teams attend, compared to the previous tournament we'd hosted, which had 24 teams (still not a record in Southern California).

Hopefully, you do host a record breaker this year
