Southern California State Championships

LOCATION: Irvine High School, 4321 Walnut Avenue, Irvine, CA 92604. The matches themselves will take place in the Humanities Building.

DATE: The tournament will be held on Saturday, April 13th. Check-in will begin at 8:00 am in HLG, and the first round should begin around 9 am. Schedules and roster confirmation sheets will be announced after the check-in.

FORMAT: The tournament will be using the NAQT IS-126. The tournament will adhere to Official NAQT Rules- with the exception that each round will be run as two untimed, 10-question halves- with a preliminary round robin followed by reseeding based on results from the round robin phase. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties for reseedings will be resolved based on points per game, followed by points per bonus. After the championship reseeding, matches will be played to determine 1st through 8th place.

As stated in the NAQT HSNCT (High School National Championship Tournament) qualification rules, the top 15% of the field--5 teams--will qualify for the 2013 HSNCT held in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, the highest placed team who has not yet qualified for HSNCT prior to the state tournament will also qualify.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students are welcome to attend.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 per team after the first
$40 flat for each team that has not competed in a decent, mACF-style or NAQT tournament in the past 2 years.

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$5 for traveling distances over 50 miles, one-way, according to Google Maps
-$10 moderator discount (this is going to be tentative, depending on the field)

Minimum fee = $60/team if returning, $40/team if not*

Please make checks payable to: Irvine Quiz Bowl. Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity. Checks or cash will be due at the start of the tournament during registration.

Field Cap: 36 teams, 4 team limit per school

Updates of the tournament will be made primarily through the Socal Quiz Bowl Facebook group as well as this forum.

LUNCH:
A light breakfast will be provided in HLG. The intersection between Walnut and Culver (about a 5-10 minute walk away) has many fast food restaurants such as Subway, Quiznos, Wendy's, and Sushi Boy.

Quick interest call from Arcadia. My co-captain and I have made attending this mandatory for all members, which means a little more than half our team will attend, so expect around 7ish teams from us, plus 2 buzzers, and possibly a moderator or two. We can dig up more of both of those if you need them.

If "a little more than half" is seven teams, I'm terrified to see Arcadia's full team.

4. Santa Monica A

The playoffs and combined stats can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/1371

Apparently, there was an error with the prelim stats and they won't be available until later.
