The NAQT website shows the Missouri Qualifier as using IS 124.

Take a look here. I think there's a typo at the top, but I believe Jeff is saying that 126 questions will be used in MSHSAA states.

The Missouri qualifier will use IS #124; the MSHSAA state championship will use questions shared with IS #126.

(Note that not all NAQT state championships will use the same set. Most of them will use the last regular set of the year, but it is perfectly normal for both 1) early championships in February and early March to use one of the earlier sets and 2) championships in states with less-experienced circuits to use one of the spring introductory sets.)

Thanks for the clarification, Jeff and Bill! Would've seen it earlier, but I've been traveling all day.

Two schools have expressed interest in hosting a Massachusetts championship; expect an announcement here within the next few weeks.

And how do teams get selected for the championships? Is it based on qualifying to nationals?

Unless indicated otherwise, NAQT state championships are open to all teams in the relevant state. (To my knowledge, the only state with qualifier requirements this year is Illinois.)

According to this (http://www.texasquizbowl.org/events/13state/) the Texas State Championship has qualification requirements.

The TQBA championship (May 3rd, uses Division II ICT, requires qualification) is a distinct event from the NAQT Texas championship (April 6th, uses IS #126, open registration).

As far as I am aware, the April 6th event is called the Bluebonnet Bowl in San Antonio and under that heading on the TQBA website there is this statement: "At this event schools earn points towards qualifying to participate in the 2013 Texas Quiz Bowl State Championship." cf.: http://www.texasquizbowl.org/events/1bluebonnet/

So, unless the posted information is incorrect (or, I've simply mis-read it -- and that's possible, too),
the state meet is in May, and, yes, one needs to qualify for it as indicated in these stats
which keep track of the competition toward that qualification:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... Ld3c#gid=2

Please feel free to correct me on this one.
As in so many other things, I'm probably in the dark.

As far as I can tell, the tournament on April 6th is NAQT States, which I presume would follow the normal guidelines for HSNCT qualification and is the official state championship in the eyes of NAQT. There is also a separate event in May, which uses Division II ICT questions, and is the official state championship for TQBA (and would presumably follow normal qualification rules for HSNCT as if it were another NAQT tournament).

Harvard is looking to host. We're just waiting to hear back on rooms but we want to do April 6.

I am pleased to confirm that Harvard will host a regional championship for New England teams on April 6.

Ideally, in the future, would it be best to have a state championship tournament in each of the states instead of a regional New England tournament?

In 2014 and beyond it would be great if there were enough demand for distinct championships. We just don't want to repeat the problems of 2012 (in which distinct CT/MA/NH championships all collapsed for want of sufficient demand/outreach).

Don't forget geographic area. I know New Jersey isn't much bigger than Connecticut (at 1.5x our size), but after that the active quizbowl states are 3, 4, 10 times as big as us. I am willing and able to host a CT championship, but it'd be a pretty small tournament. Just getting a conversation going--I would be very open to suggestions on this topic.

OK, scratch that. I talked to the TD for the NJ state championship, who said he gets about 20 - 30 teams. CT should therefore be able to pull together 12 - 20 teams (based on our size). I am thinking about TV exposure--High School Quiz Show seems to have done so much for MA quiz bowl.

Southwestern CT has The Challenge, but that is getting cancelled after this season. Next year I'm sure I could get a couple teams from Darien for a CT state championship.
