Scarsdale High School in Westchester, NY is hosting a tournament on 1/5/13.
Since Westchester has been solidly :chip: for a while, we thought it would be nice to have some real quizbowl in the area.
We are going to be using NAQT set 123-A
Guaranteed 8 rounds, Cap at 24ish teams for now (but subject to flexibility)
Fees are...
$75 for the first team
$60 for each additional team
Discounts of $15 for each moderator and $10 for each buzzer set
Minimum fee $40
(P.S. Dear Westchester teams, I sent around an email already to Westchester quizbowl advisers but I have not received replies, could you possibly see if you/your teachers have received them?)
Register to [email protected]
or in thread below
I hope you consider coming!
Sincerely,
Cindy

Edit: we are approved.

Hi everyone,

Here is an update of the current field. We have decided to raise the entry limit to 40, but are close to that. So, teams that have not signed up yet should do so soon. Also, we would appreciate if teams could give us exact numbers as soon as possible.

Valley Stream (3-5,4,0)
Mountain Lakes (2-3,1,0-1)

Hi, this is scarsdale again as well.
To make fees fair for everyone, we might have to tell/ask each team how many buzzer sets to bring, because we currently have more than enough for the field.
Also, this is Scarsdale's first time hosting a tournament so large, so please bear with us and forgive us for mistakes!

hi everyone,
This is Scarsdale again. A few things:

1) Please pay us at the tournament. Make checks payable to SUFSD and put "quizbowl tournament" in the memo. If you want to pay in cash, that is fine, but checks are preferable.

2) Registration will be from 8:15 to 8:45 with the first round beginning at 9:15. We will provide breakfast.

3) Could teams that have not done so already please tell us exactly how many teams/buzzers/moderators they are bringing by December 15th? We just want to know before everyone leaves during break.

Also, here is another field update. If any information is wrong, please let us now.
School (number of teams, number of buzzers, number of moderators)
Irvington (2,2,0)
Valley Stream (3-5,4,0)
Mountain Lakes (2-3,1,0-1)
Saint Joseph (2,1,1)
Kellenberg (4,3,2-3)
Ardsley (1,1,1)
Georgetown Day (1,0,0)
High Tech (2-4,2,0)
Ridgewood (1,2,0)
North Babylon (2,2,0)
Hastings (2,2,1)
Bergen (2,1,1)
Horace Greeley (2,1,1)
Livingston (4,2,1,)
White Plains (4,?,1-2)
Red Bulls (1,0,0)
Great Neck South (2-3,1,0)
Expressed interest:
Byram Hills

Could you put another Irvington team in? I'm feeling optimistic. Also we might have a moderator and there's like a 1% chance we'll have 2 moderators.

Hi, Scarsdale here.
So Scarsdale is a pretty new team and this is our first time hosting our own invitational.
Therefore, the 45ish teams already signed up is pretty much as many or more than we can deal with. At this time we'd like to taper off registrations. Feel free to continue to express interest, but we don't want more teams than we can effectively deal with.
So yeah, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I really look forward to this tournament.

I, and I'm sure I speak for a number of other experienced coaches bringing teams, would be more than willing to help you guys in anyway to run a smooth, efficient, and fair tourney. If need be, please feel free to ask for advice/help either prior or during the day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Count me in as a supporter of good quizbowl in Westchester County. If you need some help moderating, I'd be happy to drive down from Ithaca that day to help you guys out...it'll be my second NYC Metro area tournament of the year after Seton Hall's Pirate Open. Drop me an e-mail at scottblish at gmail dot com if you're interested in the extra help. I will probably know about two weeks before the tournament actually occurs whether I'll have the day free (four adopted kids can sometimes cause weekend time congestion on short notice), but the holidays are sufficiently finished enough by then where I doubt I'll have trouble getting away for a day.

Ranney would like to express interest with one team for now, but if it will help you expand, we can bring more teams or possibly a moderator. Is the field pretty much closed, or is it likely that it will expand a bit more?

Unfortunately, we have to put you on the wait list. The field is currently as large as we can conceivable have it. Since you are first on the wait list, I think the odds of you getting off the wait list are very good. We will let you know by December 16th.

hi everyone,

This is Scarsdale posting again. A few things.

1: The waitlist currently is, in order:
Ranney
Hanover Park Regional
Edgemont

We will almost definitely be able to allow all of these teams to get off the wait list. We will give a definitive answer by December 16th.

2. Just a reminder. can teams please give us exact numbers by December 15th. The teams we don't have exact numbers of teams for are: Hunter, Great Neck South, Valley Stream

3. The address of our school is 1057 White Plains Road Scarsdale, NY. You can use either the White Plains road (also called post) or Brewster road entrance.

Again, thanks again for your interest in our tournament. Please bear with us if we make any mistakes since this is our first time running a large tournament.

PS: @ Bro. Nigel: Thanks a lot for your offer to help us. If we have any questions, we will email you.

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, we cannot accomodate all of the teams that want to come to our tournament. We simply do not believe that we can handle a field above 48. As such, all teams that were on the wait list are still on the wait list. We apologize to everyone who wanted to come but can't. Here is the final field:
School Number of teams
Irvington 2
Valley Stream 4
Mountain Lakes 3
Saint Joes 2
Kellenberg 4
Ardsley 1
Georgetown Day 1
High Tech 4
Ridgewood 1
North Babylon 2
Hastings 2
Bergen 2
Horace Greeley 2
Livingston 4
White Plains 4
Red Bulls 1
Great Neck South 2
Hunter 3
Jort Peff 2
Byram Hills 2

Hi, so we decided to keep the cap at 48 teams for this year, as this is our first tournament and we did not want to have it get too out of hand.
The field we are expecting is:
Formatted as Team Name, # teams, #buzzers, # mods:
Irvington 2 2 1
Valley Stream 4 3 0
Mountain Lakes 3 1 0
Saint Joes 2 1 1
Kellenberg 4 3 2
Ardsley 1 1 1
Georgetown Day 1 0 0
High Tech 4 1 0
Ridgewood 1 2 0
North Babylon 2 2 0
Hastings 2 2 1
Bergen 2 1 1
Horace Greeley 2 1 1
Livingston 4 2 1
White Plains 4 2 1
Red Bulls 1 0 0
Great Neck South 2 1 0
Hunter 3 2 1
Jort Peff 2 0 0

Please tell us whether this is accurate or not!
Also, as freelance moderators we have Mr. Scott Blish and Mr. Dave Madden.

Cindy,

Unfortunately Saint Joe's of Metuchen must withdraw from the field. It turns out that we have a schedule conflict with the Model UN Conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania that weekend and my players just seemed to notice this. Since most of my players will be in Pa. that weekend, withdrawal is a necessity. The silver lining, I suppose, is that if you so choose you can move some teams off of your waiting list to take the 2 spots SJHS has just vacated. And I apologize if this causes any inconvenience but I thought you should know before we break for the holidays. And good luck---we wish you nothing but the best with your inaugural efforts at hosting a tournament.
