23rd Annual Dorman Cavalier Academic Challenge-01/19/2013

Post by thomasgnd »

The Dorman High School Academic Team, Roebuck, South Carolina, is pleased to host the Cavalier Academic Challenge for the twenty-third year in a row. As has been the case in years past, our event will be held on the Saturday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., weekend, which is January 19, 2013, this year.

Traditionally, this tournament has been one of the largest regular-season events in the nation, attracting teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Kentucky. We are always looking to expand our geographic footprint, and we cordially invite everyone to our tournament. We will have no cap on this field, and schools may bring as many teams as they would like. In years past, we have attracted as many as 130 teams to our campus, 1050 Cavalier Way, Roebuck, SC 29376.

Our questions are house-written toss-ups followed by three-part bonuses. Bonuses will bounce back, and we will not award extra points for powers or deduct points for negs.

A paper invitation has been mailed to many schools throughout our region, and a second will follow sometime around the beginning of November. If you did not receive one and would like to, please contact Geoffrey Thomas, head coach, at [email protected] or [email protected]. Any interest in or questions about our tournament may be directed to the same email addresses.

We look forward to continuing this long-standing quizbowl tradition, and we hope to welcome as many of you as possible to the Palmetto State this winter!

Chattahoochee defeated Dunbar in the championship, 330-160. New Kent and duPont Manual B were the other semifinalists I believe.

Congratulations to Chattahoochee and Ezell Harding for winning the varsity and JV divisions, respectively, of this year's tournament. Dunbar was the finalist in both divisions.

We enjoyed having everyone, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
