New and Noteworthy
I am looking for how many people might be interested in a pub-less pub trivia night in the north suburbs of Chicago on a week night between Christmas and New Year. Entry would be restricted to college and older, with special emphasis on quiz bowl alums and coaches. Teams of 2-8 welcome. Entry fee would be $20/person. Food and drinks provided. This is strictly a call for interest, not registration.

Re: New and Noteworthy
Where would this be?
Also, to ensure a greater pool of interest, would the day after NTV work better?

I'm definitely in, and I'm sure I can get some of my former players involved as well.

Re: New and Noteworthy
Bump. Here is the official announcement:
For immediate release to the boards, and to ihssbca, org, if there is
thought that this information is of benefit to the community:
Maine South High School will be hosting a publess pub trivia event on
Sunday, December 23 (the day after NTV). This event is scheduled to
begin at noon, and will end between 2 and 2:30.
Lunch will be provided in the form of salad and Portillos, soda,
water, and cookies (I figure you will be pizzad out after NTV). Lunch
is provided in the entry fee.
The format will be a pub trivia style. There are no lockouts. It is
publess pub trivia because there is no alcohol.
Teams are restricted to no larger than 4. Due to restrictions set by
the school, no current high school students may play. Teams may
consist of any combination of college players, former players,
coaches, former coaches, officials, old friends, etc. If you know any
old players who will be back in town, and you haven't seen them in a
while, bring them along. If you have ever wanted to play alongside an
old coach, get them to come out.
Questions will have an academic slant, however there will be a degree
of pop culture in keeping with the fun nature of the tournament. The
nature of the beast: we want a lot of questions to be answered,
though there will be some tougher ones thrown in to differentiate the
teams. Categories are chosen to allow for a broad distribution of
topics (there will be no topic on WWII generals, because that is too
specific ..... but I might choose a category on "orange", because I
can conceivably intertwine some history, science, art, and pop culture
into that). Hopefully, there will be a little something for everyone.
While this is a non-quizbowl competition, hopefully it can be fun and
social at the same time.
Prizes will be given to the top teams (# depending on entries) and
prizes will be given for particular round winners.
Entry fee: a donation of $15/person will be accepted for entry fee.
Teams are restricted to no larger than 4 persons.
To register: e-mail Tom Egan at Tegan at maine207 dot org. Entry
deadline is Saturday December 15. I do not need to know the names of
individuals, but I do need to know the number of people on your team.

Re: New and Noteworthy
Thus far only three teams have signed up thus it might be cancelled. If you wish to field a team, sign up before the Dec 14 deadline! Thanks!

Re: New and Noteworthy
Actually no, Egan informed me yesterday that due to lack of sufficient interest, this has been cancelled.
