The Quizbowl Resource Center

This is the sign-up sheet for the first round of the Online Skype Practice League (i.e. OSPL) for the 2012-2013 school year. This season is at the Expert level; the first Novice season will begin after Labor Day. OSPL August will run for 4 weeks beginning on either Tuesday or Wednesday, August 14-15. There are four time slots available for matches this season, with all times Eastern: 8 PM Tuesday, 9 PM Tuesday, 8 PM Wednesday, 9 PM Wednesday. If you have scheduling requests, please include that in your sign-up.

If you have not already, please read the OSPL General Announcement post to learn about rules changes, particularly those regarding substitutions and timeliness of playing your scheduled matches.

Teams will be constructed once all players have been confirmed. The winner of this season will not be eligible to play OSPL again until the OSPL Expert Champions League in May. The prize for winning this season, aside from Champions League entry, will be edited into this post at a later date.

like blizzard, I won't be able to play the first week either; I won;'t be free until Sunday, August 19.

Would the players in the League please email me (greg at historybowl dot com) to let me know their availability for next Tuesday and/or Wednesday, keeping in mind the games will run at either 8 or 9 PM Eastern? I can definitely read Tuesday night for you; I may need to delegate someone else to read on Wednesday as I will be traveling most of the day before 8 PM.

What is the difficulty of the sets that we are playing on?

Collegiate. I'll review sets over the weekend.

OSPL August (Expert) Matchnight 1 will be Wednesday, August 15.

8 PM: Lloyd v Solo
9 PM: Wambach v Morgan

I will do my best to be available to read both matches, but Kara is on standby in case I don't get to my hotel in time. I'll be flying to Tampa Wednesday and introducing approximately 300 Pinellas County social studies teachers to NHBB Thursday.

Matchnight 2: Lloyd v Wambach, Solo v Morgan (time and order to be determined based on player availability)
Matchnight 3: Lloyd v Morgan, Wambach v Solo (ditto above)
Matchnight 4: Final, if necessary (ditto above)

So this packet was hilariously too hard for the field and should be toned down for next week.

The set we used last night was a hard college set. I think the scores of 80-70 and 85-45 reflect that. It ran smoothly, other than the fact that the set was waaaaaaaay too hard.

OSPL this week is on Wednesday again.

Solo v Morgan - 8 PM
Lloyd v Wambach - 9 PM.

The majority of responses I've heard for the final are for having it on Wednesday, so that's what's happening. In any of the finalists see this post, what is your preference for a time? 8 pm or 9?

Congratulations to Collin, Tom, Sameen, and Evan of the Wembley Wambachs for winning tonight's final 305-275 over Sam, Shreyas, Alex, and Ian. Wembley enters the Champions League (fittingly enough) in May.
