On February 25, 2012, Fenton High School in Bensenville will again have the pleasure of hosting the Illinois NAQT State Championship Tournament, which qualifies teams to compete in the HSNCT held in Atlanta in May. Full tounament info and registration form are attached below, but here are the salient points--

FORMAT:
This tournament will follow standard NAQT rules and format, including timed games. The only exception is that computational math tossups will NOT be heard. The exact schedule will depend on the final field size, but teams can expect to play a miniumum of 10 games.

COST:
$60 per A-team
$50 per B-team

REGISTRATION:
Right now I have a soft cap on the field of 16 teams, but will likely increase that if sufficient staffers can be had. The first 16 teams to register by check by February 8 will have a guaranteed spot in the tournament. B-teams will be added to a waitlist that will open up on February 9.

Current Field:
1. Fenton
2. Wauconda
3. Carbondale
4. Wheaton-Warrenville South
5. Wheaton North A
6. IMSA A
7. Auburn A
8. New Trier
9. St. Ignatius A
10. Loyola A
11. Maine South A
12. Lisle
13. Greenville
14. Belvidere North
15. Champaign Centennial
16. St. Viator
17. Stevenson

Waitlist:
1. IMSA B
2. Auburn B
3. Wheaton North B
4. St. Ignatius B
5. Loyola B
6. Maine South B

I just updated the field, so I thought I'd give the thread a bump. There are still many Illinois teams I'd like to see come, so I'll probably send out another round of emails over the weekend. Right now I already have more teams interested than I have staffers for the tournament, so if you are free on Feb 25, I can definitely use your help.

I'm sure this is a free weekend for UIUC, so if I can find someone to drive up, we can provide staff (2-4 people). I'll update you when our school year starts.

Just found out from my team today that this tournament is the same day as IHSA Regionals for Math Team. Ugh, this will seriously deplete my starters. . . . We'll do our best with some of my B team subbing in!

The same goes for us, so the team competing is basically WWS B+.

As far as I know, I am playing this solo due to ICTM.

That's why you just skip ICTM Regionals for NAQT State and then go to ICTM State anyways.

Yes, it was. They've since dropped out and so has Lisle.

I'd love to get the tournament back up to 24 teams. If any school(s) wants to claim the last two spots, I'm happy to give you free entry. Please let me know by Wednesday, otherwise we'll just run it with 22 teams.

I'm going to try to work some magic tomorrow, but I'm 99% sure it's not going to work. Don't hesitate to schedule somebody else on my account.

Edit: Percentage chance of failure has been upped to only about 75%

It looked like it was going to work out for us to come, but it didn't. Have fun on Saturday!

When we left, Auburn and IMSA A were about to play a final with Auburn having the advantage. Carbondale took third. One of New Trier, IMSA B, and Loyola took fourth.

Loyola was fourth, IMSA B was fifth, New Trier was sixth.

Auburn won the first game of the advantaged final. The score was something like 450-340.

I heard Auburn won the final against IMSA A, and we beat IMSA B to take 4th*. New Trier was presumably 6th, then.

That leaves Belvidere North in 7th and Champaign Centennial in 8th to round out the top bracket then.

I want to thank all of the teams that came to Fenton yesterday. It has been a real pleasure to host this tournament for the past four years. Special thanks to Coach Stankevitz for providing a C team to round out the field.

Congratulations to Rockford Auburn for winning what I belive is their fourth NAQT State Tournament in five years.

As always, this tournament could not happen without the help and expertise of a large group of people, so huge thanks to all the staffers who made this a great event. I especially want to thank Donald Taylor for handling stats and Jonah Greenthal for setting up the tournament format and schedule.

Amazing stat line for Ben Chametzky vs. Loyola B: 14-4-2 for 240 points. Zowser!

Yeah, don't mind the crazy stats that these players were putting up. Nothing to see here, move along now folks.

Ben had his 14/4/2, Lloyd had four ten-power games (four total negs in those games) and no games with under 100 points, and Chris Olsen went 8-2-0 against an 18.56 PPB team.
