Torrey Pines Open Looking for PARTNER School and Mirrors

Post by Coldblueberry »

Hi,

Last year's tournament set is available for viewing on http://www.quizbowlpackets.com/
We're looking for a "partner school" with around 5-7 writers.

The set is regular difficulty.
Guidelines outlined here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =1&t=10349
and here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9940

Thanks.

EDIT: Just to clarify, we are not changing the difficulty as is discussed below.

To avoid confusion for anyone, I just want to make it clear that, while a link to PSAT appears in this thread, St. Anselm's will not be working on this year's iteration of TPOT.

At Richard Montgomery, we might be interested in partnering up, having written about 120 quality tossups, but no bonuses. How far along are you guys?

Justin has already messaged me, but we have about 130, 5-6 line 10pt TNR regular difficulty, and intending for easier answerlines and harder beginning clues, with powers

I have heard that this tournament so far is being written as noticeably more difficult than last year. Is this the editorial goal of this set? I want to use this set for a local tournament, but that is only on the condition that it was especially accessible the way last year's set was.

We never heard the 2010-2011 set during a tournament last year, so it's the one we're opening practices with this year. It's great and the kids really like it a lot.

Why are you making it harder? It was just right before.

This. PSAT was an awesome tournament with a great balance of difficulty and great questions. No need to mess with success.

Our tossups should be nearly the same difficulty - we have been aiming for a bit harder HSAPQ since we started this tournament last year. However, we received some feedback about our bonuses being too easy, perhaps those will be more difficult.

EDIT: our set will remain the same difficulty - I apologize for the confusion.

That is bad. We won't be buying your set if you are consciously trying to write harder than HSAPQ and think that having easy bonuses is undesirable.

Please don't accommodate upper-tier teams or alter your questions because a tournament that you happened to run got a lot of good teams there who said it was "too easy." It wasn't. It was an excellent set that i believe was one of the only house-written sets in the country to hit "regular difficulty" with consistency. If you start writing bonuses where J.M. Coetzee is the easy answer, you are making a grave mistake.

I concur with the last few responses. Though I didn't hear it at a tournament, this was my favorite set to read and I'd be glad to hear your new set at a tournament in North Carolina, given that it's the same difficulty as it was last year.

Sorry for the confusion, we're definitely not changing the difficulty.
