2011-2012 Niles West Tournament
So, my coach/school has agreed to allow me to run a tournament at Niles West HS in late 2011 or early 2012. I intend to run this as a varsity tournament using good quiz bowl practices. However, I'm not sure what date to schedule the tournament. I would like to schedule it for some date in the range of December 17 - January 14, as these are the dates of my winter break. Otherwise, I would not be able to physically be at the tournament. I wouldn't want to conflict with any high quality tournaments in the Chicagoland area (I know, for example, the NTV is held in that time frame), as I'm attempting to attract many of the strongest teams in the area. Likewise, I wonder which high quality sets would be available for mirroring at such a tournament, again without stomping on the domain of quality, pre-established tournaments.

If IMSA is planning to write another set next year, which last I heard they were, they might have the same problem as this year wherein they can't actually host it. That would be one possibility compatible with your time frame. Other options probably won't be very clear until the summer.
In any event, this is awesome and I'd be glad to help however I can.

Looking at this year's schedule as a reference, January 7 might be a good day for that. January 8 this year had Auburn's F/S, Turnabouts, and Macomb's tournament, so your tournament could likely run that weekend.

Last I heard, the status of IMSAnity 2 is "if IMSA players write enough questions soon, it will happen." And IMSA changing their policy on hosting tournaments there likely isn't going to change, although (and here I'm not speaking for Noah) they may or may not want to give Metea Valley rights of first refusal for hosting there again.
As Jonah says, this sounds wonderful and you've got my/NIU's support, if not our assistance as staffers (depending on our schedules then). Good luck!

FWIW, IMSANITY 2 looks like it will happen.
I haven't yet talked to Metea Valley about next year, but if you are interested in the IMSANITY 2 set, let me know so that we can begin those discussions. If you are not interested in the IMSANITY 2 set, then that means we'll probably need to move the IMSANITY date, so in that case also please tell me.

I could definitely be interested in the IMSAnity set. Are you looking at the same distribution as last year?

This is why you're not in charge. But on a more serious note. If this does become the Chicago IMSAnity Mirror, I'm sure that you could get IMSA players to help with staffing. Speaking for myself, I would be willing to help with tournament logistics and such. But we'll see how things pan out.whitesoxfan wrote:I want to have 6/6 math with a 4/4 science subdistro.

I'm feeling there is a meta tossup about to happen on stupid posts by Adam Kalinich.whitesoxfan wrote:I want to have 6/6 math with a 4/4 science subdistro.
No. There will definitely be some tweaks. From the feedback we've gotten back so far, I think the adjustments will please people. I don't want to go on the record with a specific distribution just yet, though, since we are still trying to finalize. Just email me if you want some preliminary information.Aaron Goldfein wrote:I could definitely be interested in the IMSAnity set. Are you looking at the same distribution as last year?

Yes. Sorry for taking so long to respond. We've just opened up registration and we'll be running the Norcross BDAT set. More information can be found here.
