Vanderbilt ABC looking for mirrors

Hello all,

This fall, Vanderbilt is planning to house-write some or all of ABC XL. I am looking for either (1) a high school or college to join writing with in making a combined set or (2) a high school set to mirror in exchange for the contribution of questions.

What difficulty level are you expecting?

I would be interested in this depending on the difficulty as well.

How many questions would need to be contributed to get the mirror?

We are expecting normal difficulty. As an example, we used HSAPQ ACF-format sets for ABC XXXVI, XXXVII, and XXXVIII, and I think that is the appropriate difficulty. I promised the questions would be similar to those used in the past years.

We are planning to have 10-14 packets, depending on format. I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking that we can write half of the required packets, so that would leave 5-7 outside packets to be contributed.

I got your message. We just gave our "how to write questions" presentation on Monday and we should have some questions from us within the next few days and from the rest of the team next week.

We're collaborating with VCU. The questions should be ready by our tournament October 30.

This is being mirrored at the Huskie Bowl in Illinois. We're still looking for other mirrors.

Since when I tried to ask this on facebook all I heard back was someone who I hadn't contacted begging me to write a bunch of philosophy questions with no offered compensation, I will ask it here: What do I need to do if I want to mirror this tournament? How much would it cost for those of us not in on the editing process?

The mirror fees will be $10 per team for those not involved in writing the tournament (Vanderbilt and VCU).

EDIT: I will talk to Ryan about his conversation with you, as I am not privy to all the details of it.

So, we fixed the egregious problems in the set this month and gave it a solid overhaul, and it seemed to be very well received. As such, people outside the Vanderbilt and VCU areas should totally mirror this. It is a full 13 packets, and as the stats from the VCU mirror show the set is both difficulty appropriate and very accessible (1472/1620 tossups answered, 90.8% conversion).

Is there going to be a discussion thread for the set?

I made a problem list for the first eleven rounds of this set. Email me if you want it. Make sure you clearly identify yourself and, if it's not obvious, why I should send you the problem list when the set may be used in the future. If Greg, George, Brad, or Charlie wants to be in charge of sending out the problem list instead of me, I will defer to their wishes. Also, a discussion thread for this set is a good idea.

You can now join the ABC Discussion group and see a discussion forum if approved.

The questions will not be posted or distributed until all mirrors are done because that is the Correct and intelligent way to do things.

I strongly advise against filling up the discussion thread with complaints about how possible the questions were.

Thanks for setting that up. People shouldn't email me. The only people I emailed my list to were Andrew Voight (an editor) and Jonah Greenthal (a moderator), and it's now where it belongs.
