2011 NASAT host call

Post by Matt Weiner » Sun Oct 03, 2010 10:40 am

HSAPQ is taking bids from potential hosts for the 2011 National All-Star Academic Tournament.

The event will take place on the weekend of June 11 & 12, 2011. We may also desire space on the evening of Friday, June 10 for a pre-tournament event, though the inability to provide rooms on that date will not necessarily disqualify a potential host.

We expect to need anywhere between 10 and 15 game rooms, as well as at least one suitably sized lecture hall for meetings and finals.

Quizbowl clubs are encouraged to bid on behalf of college campuses. We will also take bids from hotels or other types of sites.

Factors which will affect our decision include: the ability to provide all needed facilities within one building or an otherwise very compact area, the cost of traveling to the host city by air, the ease of traveling to the host city by car for the majority of the field, public transportation or nearby walkable hotels around the host institution, dining options around the host institution, and the ability of the host to recruit volunteer staff from within its own organization or those geographically nearby. The ability to have space formally reserved sooner rather than later will also play a part in the decision.

We also plan to respect the placement of this year's PACE NSC and NAQT HSNCT, and thus seek to provide attendees of NASAT with an additional city to experience besides Chicago or Atlanta. This means that institutions in those metro areas probably should not bid for NASAT this year, but are encouraged to contact us about future plans.

Bids should indicate the names and e-mails of 2 to 4 contacts who will be with the host institution from now through the NASAT dates, and should address each of the factors listed above, including a realistic estimate of how many staffers you expect to provide.

Please contact me at mattweiner.vcu@gmail.com or Eric Douglass at ericd25@hotmail.com if you would like to file a bid or have any questions. We would like to collect all bids by October 31 and make an announcement shortly afterwards.

I can't find a link to the set on the website, which is probably what was intended.

I'd heard rumors that it's at Maryland.
