Ontario Hybrid 2020 Announcement (Trash + Academic)
Ontario Hybrid 2020 Announcement (Trash + Academic)
We are pleased to announce that Canadian Hybrid will be returning again in 2020, written by Henry Atkins, Sheena Li, Aayush Rajasekaran, Jack van Nostrand, and Colin Veevers. I will be serving as head-editor, and I aim to produce a tournament similar in quality to the last one with some minor distributional changes.
For this year, we will be accepting optional pack submissions. Our intention is to give a chance for new players and new clubs to write questions, and I plan on providing feedback afterwards. I encourage club presidents to organize teams and take the lead with writing.
This tournament will be fully open, and we'll be aiming to replicate the difficulty of this year's EFT by providing a challenge for open teams while remaining competitive and accessible for newer players. Our aim is producing 14 packages of 20/20 questions with submissions. The tentative distribution:
10/10 Academic
2/2 History (1/1 Western, 1/1 World/other)
2/2 Literature (0.5/0.5 long fiction/drama/poetry/other)
2/2 Science (1.25/1.25 big 3, 0.75/0.75 other)
2/2 RMPSS (0.5/0.5 each)
1.5/1.5 Fine art (0.5/0.5 audio, visual, and "other arts" each)
.5/.5 Geo, CE, Other
10/10 Trash (subject to change)
2/2 Sports (1.25/1.25 big 4, 0.75/0.75 other)
2/2 Music (Split evenly at 2000)
1.5./1.5 Movies (Split evenly at 2000)
1.5/1.5 TV (Split evenly at 2005)
0.5/0.5 Movie/TV crossover
1/1 Video Games
0.5/0.5 Trash lit/theater (prose, comics, musicals go here)
0.5/0.5 Internet
0.5/0.5 Other
This set will be available to mirror throughout the spring and summer. New to this year, we will make the trash questions or academic questions available separately for mirror as side events. These half-copies of the set, packetized to be 20/20 trash or academic, will be set at a lower price. We will edit the more egregious Canadian content for American or British mirrors.
The writers are asking for $35 CAD per team in attendance at mirrors.
Pack submissions should be sent in by March 10. Please send to erock199 [at] gmail.com, as my Waterloo address is currently inaccessible.

I know that you just announced but would April be the earliest time to mirror?
Re: Ontario Hybrid 2020 Announcement (Trash + Academic)
Likely, but if an earlier mirror were proposed we might be able to make it work.

Considering the recent announcement of the Barnard mirror, I've decided to extend the submission deadline to March 10.

Hello,
I was curious if an Online Mirror was going to run of this set given the recent boom in online tournament demand

In light of all mirrors being postponed, anyone who missed the submission deadline is free to send a submission when you're satisfied with it.
I'm planning on posting a poll in a few days regarding date for a potential online mirror, and I'll talk to the writers and other potential staff who may help me run the mirror.

Not Erik, but it hasn't been played in Canada yet (y'know, the home market of this tournament), so probably not.
