North Greenville University (Tigerville, SC) is hosting FOGEY 2019 (For Old Geezers and Everyone Younger) with a date set for 18 May 2019. The question set is pyramidal and skews a little toward the easy side in terms of answers; this means the answer is more likely to be Elvis Presley than Elvis Costello. However, the questions will be roughly distributed between four eras: 1969 and earlier/1970 – 1984 /1985-1999 /2000-2019. The field will ideally be divided between younglings (anyone born 18 May 1998 or after) and geezers (anyone born before 18 May 1998). Any team with a geezer on it is considered a geezer team. If either field is not large enough, we may combine the fields, but awards for the top youngling team and top geezer team will be awarded regardless of the fields. Other prizes (individual, etc) will be awarded as they are available.

1 Card games, board games, and toys
1 Other (products, businesses, people, Broadway musicals, and whatever else didn’t fit other categories)

Fee:
$60 per team

Discounts:
-$20 if all players on the team are born on or after 18 May 1998 (ie. everyone is 21 or younger). You may be carded.
-$10 per full-time moderator/reader
-$5 per buzzer (maximum 2, but may be higher if we lack buzzers)

The total field (both young and old combined) is to 11 teams.

With less than a month before the tournament, we are getting a few aspects squared away.

We are expecting to begin check-in at 8:30am at the Hayes Ministry Center (coming in through the Donnan Boulevard entrance, it is on your right as you top the hill) with group meeting at 9:00am and games beginning by 9:20am. All games will be played in Averyt-Wood (across the parking lot from Hayes).

Barring any major changes to the schedule, field, etc., we are planning to run a round robin for the Geezer field and a double round robin for the Youngling field with playoffs as necessary.

We have reached our maximum field with the number of readers and scorekeepers that we have, but any teams still interested in attending who are able to bring a dedicated reader can email me at nguquizbowl at gmail dot com. We have plenty of rooms available, so expanding the field should not be a problem if we have the required staff.

Battle Armor Skeletor (Mark Franklin, Chris Jaunsen, Maike Staly, Traci Jaunsen, and Robin Richards) won the tournament with a 9-1 record and thus took home a set of Hallmark athlete ornaments. Tequila Sunrise (Geoffrey Thomas, Palmer Smith, and Eric Huff) placed second and won CDs by former American Idol contestants. Central Asian All-Stars (Alex Tabor, Erin Drinnon, and Noah Lyons) took home the Marvel-themed Pez for their third place finish. Mountain View High won the Youngling award (for team with all players under 21), an Electronic Football Game and the 1972-73 Movies on TV reference book.
