Fact Mountain app for iPhone/iPad--promo codes available

Post by bdavery »

The first 3 apps in the series [U.S. Presidents, Russian Literature--written by Dallin Kelson (whom some of you know), and 19th-Century American Literature] are now available in Apple's App Store for iPhone/iPad:

US Presidents
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fact-mo ... 66468?mt=8

Russian Literature
https://itunes.apple.com/om/app/russian ... 81386?mt=8

American Literature
https://itunes.apple.com/hk/app/fact-mo ... 95592?mt=8

I have 10 free promo codes available for each one; e-mail [email protected] and ask for the one you want. If you take one, you are committing to spend 40-45 minutes with each of the 3 modes (so 2-3 hours total) and then put a review in this thread.

The next message will discuss FAQ's that have come up, and the message after that will put in some of the reviews I have received privately.

People who have tried them out have noted things that I forgot to put in the "help" area of the app. Until I get to that, they are :

1) For U.S. Presidents, type last name only. You can type FDR, LBJ, JFK, Bush 41 or Bush 43 if it is the answer. A prompt is given if a shared last name is the answer. I don't plan auto-fill for this one because the most you have to type is 10 characters.

2) For Russian Literature, skip “A”, “An” and “The” if it is the first word. You can type only “Dr Zhivago” or “Ivan Denisovich” if it is the answer. A future version may have auto-fill.

3) For 19th-Century American Literature, skip “A”, “An” and “The” if it is the first word. You can type only “Owl Creek Bridge”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Tom Sawyer”, “Huck Finn”, “Connecticut Yankee”, “Jumping Frog” or “Puddinhead Wilson” if it is the answer. A future version may have auto-fill.

The reviews here mentioned the stuff above and also said:

"LOVE, LOVE, Love the president App." -- Claudette Smith, ASCA State President-Elect

"Your app does a good job of teaching a limited amount of American literature." -- Mike Flandermeyer, Lutheran HIgh School of St. Charles County (MO)

"Like the hyperlinks. Nice feature. Have to turn iPad vertical to play which is ok, just took some trial and error and a younger mind to figure out. Otherwise, a good set of info surrounding each president. Challenging." -- James Jurkovich, St. Thomas Academy (MN)

"LOTS of information, flashcards and game are great ideas." -- Matt Edelstein, Walton HS (GA)

"A couple of my students and myself have both spent 2-3 hours using the app. We think the content is very good, however, we do wish it covered a larger selection of novels... I liked the app enough, that I have already purchased the Russian Literature app and it looks just as good." -- Derek Stice, Edmonson County (KY)
