RAFT III (2021 - 22)

Post by shar2931 »

The third edition of the Regular Academic Fall Tournament (abbreviated RAFT III) will be available for mirrors beginning on October 30, 2021 and continuing on through the 2021–2022 season. As the name implies, RAFT III will be a high school regular difficulty set, similar to previous editions.

RAFT III will be head-edited by Arthur Delot-Vilain and me, Shardul Rao. The subject editors for the set are Dean Ah Now (History), Gus Carvell (Geography, Current Events, and Pop Culture), Arthur Delot-Vilain (History), Tasis Gemmill-Nexon (Religion and Mythology), Abhinav Karthikeyan (Social Science), Alex Moon (Philosophy), Shardul Rao (Fine Arts), Karsten Rynearson (Literature), and Maxwell Ye (Science). The writers were selected from our earlier open call.

There will be 14 packets in the set, each of which contain 20 tossups and 20 three-part bonuses. Tossups will be power-marked and are capped at 675 characters. Bonuses will be no more than 8 lines in length. The distribution is as follows:

4/4 History (1/1 each of American, European, World, and Other)
4/4 Science (1/1 each of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Other)
4/4 Literature (1/1 each of American, British, European, and World + Classical)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 each of Visual, Auditory, and Other)
3/3 RMPSS (1/1 each of Religion and Mythology, 0.5/0.5 each of Philosophy and Social Science)
2/2 Other (0.5/0.5 each of Geography and Current Events, 1/1 Pop Culture)

The distribution posted above is near-identical to previous editions of RAFT, with the exception of some minor changes in literature and some sub-distributional shuffling.

To better compensate the writers and editors, the base mirror fee of RAFT III will be $20 per team, higher than in previous years. Hosts may receive a $5 per-team discount if electronic scoresheets are used for the tournament and are provided to the RAFT III team afterward. Please contact me at [email protected] if you would like to use the question set for your tournament.

Could you post this set onto the High School Quizbowl Packet Archive?

On quizbowlpackets.com, the link to Packet 5 current redirects to Packet 7, making the actual Packet 5 inaccessible.
