DART II: Call for Writers and Preliminary Announcement

Post by 21_Cabbage »

DART II, a regular-plus high school difficulty set, is looking for more writers. Applicants must be in the high school class of 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024). DART II will be available for mirrors beginning in the fall of 2021. The subject distribution will be similar to that of this year's edition. As with this year's DART, all proceeds from mirror fees will go to charity instead of to the writers or editors. A full announcement for this set is forthcoming.

We are looking for writers to supplement our existing writing team, which consists of the current Detroit Country Day and Troy HS (MI) quiz bowl teams. If you would like to apply, please fill out this form and your application will be considered. You do not need any previous writing experience to apply, but we ask that prospective writers submit 1 tossup and 1 bonus as part of their application. These submitted questions should be written specifically for this application and should not be used for any other set. Your submissions should be high school hard difficulty. Tossups should be 550-650 characters long and bonuses should be no more than 8 lines [excluding answerlines].

The 1/1 submission can be on any subject. They don't have to be in the same category. We are primarily looking for writers in Literature, Science, and Philosophy, although all applications will of course be considered. During set production, writers will not be restricted to categories based on what categories their submissions were in. Please do only submit 1 tossup and 1 bonus total, not a tossup/bonus set per category you are interested in writing for.

When evaluating writing submissions, we are primarily looking for questions that have appropriately ordered and interesting clues, difficulty-appropriate answer lines, and a clear and concise writing style. Most importantly, questions must contain well-researched clues that are not ripped from unreliable sources such as Wikipedia or Quizdb. Writers will be accepted on a rolling basis until we have a complete team. The final deadline for submitting an application is 11:59 PM Eastern Time, Sunday, May 9th (early applications will be accepted quicker).

Please feel free to reach out and contact me on Discord or by email, should you have any questions:

We look forward to seeing your submissions!

Hello everyone, the deadline for writing submissions has passed. We received many more applications than we initially expected, so unfortunately we had to reject a lot of great applicants. The writing team is now full, and set production is well underway.

Here are the new writers:
Ben Chapman [Hunter '21]
Stan Melkumian [Macomb HS '21]
Geoffrey Wu [Naperville North HS '21]
Louis Li [Ladue HS '21]
Neal Joshi [Carmel HS '21]
Austin Guo [Carmel HS '22]
Allie Hoffert [Northfield HS '24]
Vedul Palavajjhala [Kinkaid HS '22]
Cole Hartung [Kinkaid HS '24]

Again, the DART II team thanks everyone who applied.
