RAFT III: Call For Writers and Preliminary Announcement

Post by buffaloz1331 »

The third edition of the Regular Academic Fall Tournament (RAFT III), a regular difficulty high school set, is looking for writers. RAFT III will be available for mirrors beginning in the 2021-2022 season, and its distribution will be similar to that of previous iterations. A full announcement for this set is forthcoming.

We are looking for a team of dedicated writers for the set. If you would like to apply, please fill out this form and your application will be considered. You do not need any previous writing experience to apply, but we ask that prospective writers submit 1 tossup and 1 bonus as part of their application. These submitted questions should be written specifically for this application and should not be used for any other set. Your submissions should be regular high school difficulty. Tossups should be 550-650 characters long [approximately 5-6 lines] and bonuses should be no more than 8 lines total.

When evaluating writing submissions, we are primarily looking for difficulty-appropriate clues and answer lines, as well as clear and concise writing style. Writers will be accepted on a rolling basis until we have a complete team. The final deadline for submitting an application is 11:59 PM Pacific Time, Sunday, March 7.

Please feel free to reach out and contact me at the following email address, should you have any questions: ardelotvilain [at] gmail [dot] com. We look forward to seeing your submissions!

An edit for clarification: the 1/1 submission can be on any subject. They don't have to be in the same category. During set production, writers will not be restricted to categories based on what categories their submissions were in. Please do only submit 1 tossup and 1 bonus total, not a tossup/bonus set per category you are interested in writing for. Hope this clarification helps. Again, let me know if you have any questions!

As a note—please do not share the content of your submissions with people who are not involved in set production. If accepted, we will probably use the questions in the set. If you've already shared these questions, no worries—I should've been more clear about that. Shoot me an email or a Discord message if you applied and have since shared your content with someone else. There will be no penalty for this—we will still consider the submissions, but will not use leaked questions in set production. We've received a lot of applications so far, keep them coming!
